Eric Nehm pointed out yesterday that the reason Brook is so important is that the can defend, hit 3’s AND be an elite post scorer when appropriate. Turner can’t do that last part, and that post scoring element was critical during a few of those playoff games last year.

What I don’t understand on the Brook front is why everyone assumes his career is over. It could be, but it’s too early to make that pronouncement. We only need him for five warm up games and 20-25 playoff games.

We desperately need him or someone his size if we play Embiid in a series in the playoffs. I agree on the post scoring though, would’ve liked to have seen him used even more after he dominated the Heat. On the flip side though how many nba players have come back after back surgery?

I feel like Brook's post game is very overrated. We have even more offensive weapons with Allen instead of Tucker so the added defensive versatility and better spacing Turner provides would improve us. And of course Turner would provide more trade value in the future.

I can't wait for Turner to get traded for a couple of 1sts so we can stop talking about him.

Good player, but drop system only, and definitely not better than Bobby. Bobby is a clear upgrade from Brook now that we play a hedge and recover PNR defense.

Game on the line. Bucks down 1. Last possession. Do you prefer:

Giannis needing to hit two free throws or DiVincenzo needing to score a fastbreak layup?

I prefer Donte grabbing that rebound (bc no one else will), dishing to Jrue (bc giannis at point is a disaster), who lobs to a streaking Giannis for the dunk at the other end (because why settle for less) and a trip to the free throw line

Never gonna happen, but I truly believe it could make the Bucks a better team.

Depth chart come playoff time:

PG: Haliburton - Hill - DDV
SG: Allen - Pat - DDV
SF: Middleton - Barnes - Pat
PF: Barnes - Giannis - Bobby
C: Giannis - Bobby - Boogie - (Brook)

I know, I know

I wish the Bucks didn't have such a sordid history with talking up a player's "progress" without disclosing timetables.

Donte had no timetable up until Shams said he's coming back months early.

Shams also reported Nov. 19 "Good news for Bucks center Brook Lopez, who's been out since opening night Oct. 19: He is progressing toward a comeback for the reigning champions and says he has a target return in mind" (despite how Brook pointedly wouldn't give a date).

There was no reporting to the contrary up until Lopez had surgery.

What we do know is whoever talked to Zach Lowe emphasized their optimism that he will be back for the playoffs.

Hopefully that is actually the case and is a realistic outlook.

I also don't see replacing what he brings as easy. And even if we could acquire Turner we'd have to trade Donte and other assets to do it, which we'd weigh differently if we think BroLo will be mostly healthy come playoff time if we just wait it out.

Well, we've got the league's 4th best net rating, same as we had last year. And I think we're deliberately limiting our transition opportunities so we can practice half court execution.

Bucks have an age issue with this core around Giannis and Brook is at the end of the spectrum for that coupled with the fact that Bucks have few assets to grab big pieces who will age more along with Giannis

I don't think we have the assets to acquire Myles, so it's moot, but, if for some reason Brook's return was in question and/or Myles was attainable for Bucks, they have to do it simply because Brook is 33 and Myles is 25 and Giannis is 27. He's not a perfect Brook replacement, but he is an elite center with some untapped upside still.

Given our GMs ability to find hidden gems, I suspect whatever move we make at center will be something none of us saw coming.

I'm willing to give Boogie more time to acclimate but so far he's added nothing.

Pelicans could use someone of Nwora's skillset and size, perhaps they're willing to give up Willy Hernangomez for him.

I think he is showing why he was still available.

He's a big body on a team with no big bodies. Beyond that, he's been and probably will continue to be pretty useless...kinda like rolo was

How do we think Portis would feel about acquiring Turner or any other long term starting center?

Even if the Bucks have a handshake deal on a return I could see us having to keep him in the starting lineup for that to hold.

That doesn't mean the Bucks don't need another high caliber big to play the Lopez role!

I could imagine that having to be a bench role now is all in the wake of Bobby's emergence -- whether it'd be Brook coming back or another player we'd be acquiring.

Think we need to come to terms with the fact that a guy like Brook isn't really "replaceable". So really, this team is gonna have to embrace small-ball. Boogie's fine as a 15-minute innings-eater for the regular season, but the goal should firmly be acquiring another switchable PF guy in the Thad Young/Rudy Gay mold. Preferably someone who doesn't suck like Ojeleye...

Perhaps a guy like PJ Tucker would fill such a role

And I believe we are 12-1 with all of the Big 3 playing? And we haven't had our third most important defender all season.

Past this year I don’t think he would have been serviceable in that role anyways. Until he replicates last year’s playoff success with Miami (personal or team) it’s too early to say it was a mistake not retaining him.
