Knox actually looked pretty solid. There is no doubt in my mind that he will have a place in this league once his time with the Knicks is up. He won’t get a chance here behind Randle/Obi

He’s tall, got length and can hit the 3. His defense wasn’t even that bad last night. Some team will run him as a backup stretch 4 for 12 minutes a night.

He was never that bad really. Needs the ball in his hands a little.

Idk whats going on in practice but its pretty clear Randle needs to learn how to deal with double teams. The delay double team as he turns his back is just completely destroying him and his confidence. He keeps getting picked and you can see how frustrated he is afterwards. They need to practice sets where Randle is in the post and gets doubled. The starters need to have a plan for when it happens so that Randle can just react instead of think.

If it was only Randle posting with his back to the basket and getting swarmed, that would be something to address.

But Randle dribbles directly into the hands of defenders. He literally hands them the ball or one of them side pokes the ball as he races into coverage. All of that is either with him facing the paint as he dribbles forward out of control or with him spinning directly into a clutch of hands. It’s pretty nuts.

I know he ended up being a eurowhore glass cannon but give me 4-5 years of this with a shot at a KP+ level player each year until we find a Booker, Luka, Giannis, Jokic or even a Bam.

What’s happening with Obi, Grimes, Duece, Knox etc is the reason I don’t trust the build thru the draft strategy for this franchise. Guys we draft in the frickin lottery get buried on the bench for almost the entirety of their rookie contracts in favor of playing veteran known commodities and never get to properly develop. We ruin any potential prospects may have had. Unless a player was top 4 pick it seems you don’t get a chance to play thru your mistakes and develop here. Only RJ and KP got consistent minutes

Frank and Knox played through their mistakes too, until it was clear they were unplayable and no player in the locker room would've respected a coach giving them minutes.

With Obi and IQ, it's largely a Thibs issue.

Thibs is dogmatic. He has his philosophy, his template, and he will not change his mind. That's why his teams are generally well-prepared, and then get figured out quick by the rest of the league.

Thibs doesn't want to play without a rim protector, because it'd require him to change his whole defensive schemes. So Obi can't play the 5 under Thibs. And at the 4 he's stuck behind Randle, who Thibs has identified as his extension on the floor. Obi's 3-point shooting doesn't help his case, to be fair.

IQ doesn't fit the archetype of a driving point guard that Thibs loves. I think he's the most egregious case going back to last season.
