Their cities' Dept of Public Health should pressure the league more! I'm of the belief that we would've still been playing a game tomorrow had Chicago not stepped in.

Tho I find it sad and hilarious that the NBA forced the Sixers to suit up an injured Mike Scott just so they would make the minimum required count. It's like making the Bulls suit up Pat Will just so we'd have 8. They obviously would do anything and everything NOT to postpone games.

We’re going to need to figure out a better fix to this. Not just in sports, but in general. You can test positive but also not be sick or transmissible. Everyone continuously popping positive on PCRs is not a longer-term solution

I believe the NBA has said that while ~97% of their players are vaccinated, only about 2/3 of them have also received the booster. Given what's transpired, the Bulls don't look like a team that's heavily "boosterized". But I'm guessing we'll never hear whether Bulls players had already received their boosters, or are in the process of doing so, or neither.

Israel has already redefined 'vaccinated' as initial jab(s) plus booster. People there who haven't gotten the booster are considered to be only partially vaccinated. Omicron is going to chase the rest of the world down that path, and probably rather quickly...

But if it's the Omicron variant which is supposedly more transmissible then what would the boosters accomplish exactly?

Boosters are already demonstrated effective against Omicron.

https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/israeli-study-finds-pfizer-covid-19-booster-protects-against-omicron-2021-12-11/

https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/biontech-pfizer-say-test-shows-3-doses-vaccine-neutralise-omicron-2021-12-08/

The boosters are just additional doses of the earlier vaccine that is estimated to only be 23% effective against Omicrom.

The boosters raise antibody levels, so someone who has been boosted will have better immunity than someone who only received an initial 2-shot course of mRNA.

Bear in mind that the "23% effective" number is in reference to a South African study about preventing symptomatic COVID. The study still showed that though a 2-shot Pfizer course didn't prevent infection super well, it did prevent serious illness. A booster appears to provide better protection against infection/symptoms.

Maybe after Moderna has a Omicrom specific booster in about 80 days it might make a difference.

I'm sure the Omicron-specific vaccines will be even better, but boosters are super useful right now.

And it might be dangerous to keep injecting professional athletes with these vaccines. Professional soccer players are collapsing on the pitch all over Europe secondary to vaccines. A Scottish female rugby player named Sioban Cattigan died at age 26, many suspecting the vaccine was possibly implicated. These jabs are not without risk. Very few healthy athletic people in their prime of life have died from Covid.

Well, now we're into the dangerous misinformation part of the post!

My guess is that at some point, when COVID has become endemic rather than pandemic, leagues will stop policing it like they do now. Heck, MJ's "flu game" is lionized as an example of competitive greatness rather than "some a-hole who knew he had the flu could have gotten everyone else sick," but we don't think that way when it comes to COVID. Presumably the population is going to steadily keep building immunity through repeated vaccination and repeated infection, so that those who have survived will be pretty COVID-robust, and as a society we won't be so worried about COVID cases.

But given we're still having two or three 9/11s every week in the United States (in terms of COVID deaths), we're not there yet.

It's honestly pretty shocking to be that Donovan and other coaches haven't had positive tests this season given how much contact they have w/the players.

About time. This also gives guys like caruso, who just came back from injury, a bit of a break.

REMINDER! This is not a COVID debate thread. There are other places on this site for that. Everyone has a right to an opinion but this is not the place. This is for discussion about how Covid Protocol has decimated this team and we are missing games. Not a debate about Vax pro or against. Please keep that in mind

Good. At first I thought it would be Canada/Toronto that would've raised some alarms seeing as the Bulls were about to travel to there in their plague infested airplanes or whatever.

Ridiculous it took the NBA this long to change course. The entire health and safety of the entire public is put at risk if they kept allowing a ravaged organization to travel and play other teams.

7 days off is great. Coby & DeMar should be back for the Lakers game I'd assume? Zach will be back shortly after. Hopefully everyone is fully healthy going into the new year.

Winning streak?

Post#55 » by ChettheJet » Tue Dec 14, 2021 3:12 pm

Will it be a winning streak if we get through 24 hours without a positive test?

I mean at this rate it will be a victory if the Bulls don't generate their own new mutation of the virus.
