Hawks are a poor defensive team.

They are 13-14. The Rockets played out of their minds in the 4th quarter hitting lucky shot after lucky shot. Hats off to them for playing hard. Trae Young had 41 points and 9 assists on a great shooting night but the rest of the team failed to show up in the fourth quarter. The Rockets btw are on a winning streak and have beaten several good teams in it so I don't know why losing to a Rockets team that went bonkers in the 4th is somehow a shame.

So trae young playing at a near MVP level isn't any longer dragging the atlanta hawks to an above .500 record.

I'm starting to wonder if the Hawks were a flash in the pan team like the Knicks last year. I pegged them as a top 4 team in the east before the season started. They obviously have far more talent, but it's not coming together as I thought it would. Lets see if they can put it together, lots of games left to be played.

I think eventually Trae would have to lower his usage. Right now I feel like he shoots way too much. And being 6 ft doesn’t help.

Some Hawk fans will say that it's still early as an excuse. It's another year of injuries for Atlanta but the positive is that Trae Young continues to improve.
Early January the Hawks should began to improving and win more consistently as the team gets healthy.

get them some real defense

Capela over achieved last year

also idk what happened to DeAndre Hunter, he was amazing last year and apparently this year he's their worst player by a huge margin. He was also their best perimeter defender last year.

Kind of surprised Onyeka Okwongwu isn't playing for the main team, but he's a solid hope for a guy that might be able to replace Capela in the next few years.

They're definitely gonna be making a move at the trade dead line, no way they play to pay Reddish and Hunter in the next off-season. Hopefully they grab some defense. What if they traded Capela for Myles Turner? It might be a sick fit actually, they'd probably have to give up some draft assets but this might be the upcoming move real soon

Something about Cam Reddish tells me he's the real deal. He just needs the space to grow, whether in Atlanta or elsewhere.

I'm still not that worried about the Hawks. Their magical run to the ECF simply had some getting ahead of themselves in terms of expectations. Their star is playing fantastic basketball. They still have a lot of depth. Now they need to consolidate(but who doesn't) and they need to go get a veteran 2-way forward they can depend on. Hunter is talented, but so undependable and Reddish shows flashes but isn't consistent enough.

But they have plenty of assets to address their issues. They are ultimately going to be fine.

Could become the Trailblazers of the Eastern Conference - one star who only cares about offense and the rest: a roster full of nothing special.

This. Young players and assets are cool but vets make an impact. Just look at the Rockets for example, they started winning once they stopped playing their young guys. Hawks will be fine. They have a ton of injuries and I chemistry issues to start. They’d be a good landing spot for Jeremey Grant and some defensive vets.

Honestly after that game I was so angry I had to get off the internet. I went and played my Drazen Petrovich MyPlayer shooting guard on NBA 2k22 on my PS5 to blow off some steam.

Maybe they are near where they should be? The east is very strong this year.

You don't seem to realize that Hunter is injured and OO has been rehabbing in the G League. Do you not take into account the injuries before writing up a post?

Bogdan Bogdanović is injured too. Capela is just fine but he needs his backcourt to step up and play defense. If you're Cap and guarding your own man or zone, but if the guards aren't playing defense good enough, what do you think IA going to happen to the frontcourt when they receive more pressure?

He was solid for them last year, amazing is a stretch though. He played 23 games for them last year... less than 1/3rd of the season. He's only played 11 games for them this year. I think he has a ton of promise but maybe youre talking about a different player?

Yeah I tend to think people got ahead of themselves a bit with the run they had. This is absolutely a 2nd round team, maybe an ECF team again if they stay healthy and pick it up. Hunter being hurt doesn't help. But it's a young squad. Trae, Collins, Capela is the core to me. I think they should make a strong move for Jaylen Brown if he becomes available.

1. Hunter had his knee scoped for the 2nd time after the Knicks playoffs series so he was returning from injury to start the season. He played in 11 games this season then injured his wrist which required surgery, so again he is out with injury for about another month.
2. Onyeka had offseason shoulder and has been out all season. He is currently assigned to the GLeague and should hopefully be cleared to make his NBA return shortly.
The Hawks need them both badly - there is a lot of defensive potential in street clothes.
