Re: 2021-22 NBA Rookie Thread (part 3)
Here's a video someone recently did about rookie Dalano 'Night Bus' Banton. Lots of clips of his extreme aggression in attacking the rim. he is not just very fast and long but makes decisions at top speed and he has great vision and accuracy as a passer. Last night in 9 minutes played he had 6 assists. Raps fans are very excited about his potential...

Re: 2021-22 NBA Rookie Thread (part 3)
His offense has been a work in progress lately. But Mobley ranks:
1st in Luck-Adjusted D-RAPM
2nd in D-RAPM
3rd in Def EPM
3rd in D-DRIP
4th in D-LEBRON
6th in Def RAPTOR
That's in the entire league, not just among first-year players. Just nuts to see this level of defense from a rookie.

Pretty crazy indeed. I'm sure his offensive game will come around in a couple years too.

it's not perfect because you have to make judgment calls for a lot of archetypes, even players in the same category could have different factors (starter vs. bench player).
Wagner very rarely is a stationary shooter, not sure why you have him labeled as that. The only stationary shots I've seen him take is when they pass him the ball with no time on the clock and he has to rush a contested shot.
We don't have a PG that can get him wide open stationary looks. When Fultz comes back that stat should improve. As for now a majority of his shots are step backs.
i didn't label him that, it's what the site lists him as. that's part of the reason i said it doesn't perfectly compare players in "similar" roles, just gives a little better idea than comparing rookies in completely different roles directly to each other.

Honestly a very good-elite playmaking Kawhi, but probably not as good a shooter. It looks like Barnes is shockingly trending to be a very good if not elite mid range shooter atm, the only question is how good will he be from the 3 point line?
You really think he's "trending to be a very good if not elite mid range shooter"? It doesn't look like that to me but you've probably seen him at least 30 times more than I have this year. What's the case for that? His FT shooting is better than expected but still a weakness (72%, up from 62%) and he's got that sort of set shot thing still that's hard to have faith in. Be a huge leap if he was suddenly great from there, but I was surprised to read that.
EDIT: Is that just based on the 54.5% he's posting on midrange shots? That's on the miniscule small sample of 18 makes this whole season, he's barely shooting more than one of those per game. (To put in perspective, if one more shot rimmed out every 5 games, he'd be shooting below 40% from midrange.) It's encouraging but lotta evidence still to come.

Re: 2021-22 NBA Rookie Thread (part 3)
Just musing... I know the pecking order is already there with Mobley Barnes Wagner.. etc. I mean their names are mentioned enough already.
What I want though is those early favorites to barge into the conversation. Kinda like Boston Jr. is doing.. I mean I kinda want like:
Kispert just made 10 3s in the game.
Jalen Johnson had a 20-10 in last nights game.
Bouknight already with 15 and we arent even in thr half.
Moody with the game winner.
Keon Johnson with the espn top dunk of the week.
etc etc

Literally 50% of the shots he takes comes from 3 to the FT line.
Highlighted in blue are the percentages he took not at the rim, highlighted in green are how well he's shooting those, not including tonight.

that's what the "all-in-one" stats attempt to do.

His post game is going to be elite if he regularly has small forwards defending him - even schooled Durant a few times in there today. The fact that he can just set himself up with his ball handling to get to his spot is a bonus. He's also a waaaay better shooter than anyone thought he would be at this stage. What a find.
He made some rookie mistakes but overall a fantastic game from Scottie. Barring injury Cade, Barnes and Mobley are going to be some of the top players in this league imo.

Barnes has 1 FG attempt at the half.....8 teammates had more.
Finishes with 23 pts, 12 rbds, 5 assists.....and was 3 of 5 from 3 pt range.
All while playing great D.

scottie would be averaging 20 8 5 had he been on a team without a pecking order. kid literally does ridiculous stuff then gets frozen out. its sad to watch

This draft class is looking super deep thus far.
You have some players who are really showing flashes of what they can do in.
Mobley, Barnes, Sengun, Franz, Giddey
Then of course you have players who are struggling but have real potential in Cade, Green, Suggs

Scottie is special man. This dude can legit do it all.
I wish Lowry was still the leader/starting PG of this team. He'd do wonders for Scottie's development. (As he did with Pascals, FVV, etc.)
FVV is too selfish in all honesty.

Scottie Barnes is doing some insane things. 5 blocks last night, went toe to toe with KD tonight. He looks like he's going to be an allstar very quickly

Just imagine if OKC were able to get the 3rd and 4th if the lottery went their way?
Mobley and Barnes on the same team with SGA would have been their KD/Harden/Westbrook reincarnated.

How dare you say that. He’s Fred’s “project”.
