I'm just glad Kyrie Irving can't play basketball or he would be contributing to the spread oh wait...

Either the vaccine is trash or we're still wrapping people in bubblewrap.
The vaccines work fine and they’re doing the job of keeping people from being hospitalized and in the ICU. Herd immunity only works if a high number of people are vaccinated. Even in a state like California with high vaccination rates still has millions of unvaccinated people. Unvaccinated people also travel from state to state. I’m sure NBA players have family and friends that are unvaccinated and I’m they aren’t giving them PCR tests before they hang out. This is just the reality of opening up the country without high vaccination rates. Cases are going to go up and unless the NBA goes back to restricting where players go this is going to keep happening.
People who have had Covid acquire antibodies, also.
To say herd immunity is only possible through vaccinations is just not true.
If you’re going to blatantly ignore “natural immunity” your statements are really empty.
Not to mention that vaccinated people are currently contracting and spreading the virus…
I’m vaccinated but I’m also capable of recognizing that the current vaccines are not the be all to end all. They are more like 1 mitigation strategy. But not the only.
The problem with the natural herd immunity strategy is that you have to risk dying to get there. It’s going to cause a lot of unnecessary deaths and long term effects. Plus we also know that natural immunity is not the same for everyone.
Vaccines are effective, but the problem has always been a timing issue. It’s been a year since we have them and it’s completely illogical that we’re still at less than 60% of the worlds population that has had one dose either due to supply or by choice. If you have large pockets of unvaccinated people where the virus can spread to and mutate, of course it’s going to infect some vaccinated people, although unvaccinated is still higher risk. Implicit in the logic behind vaccinations is if I’m vaccinated, there’s enough people around me that are vaccinated that it forms a protective bubble for all of us, hence herd immunity, but if that’s not the reality and we’re seeing the gap in action.

That's just straight up false.
No it’s not. Look it up. I know plenty of people who got it twice.

That could work I guess but this going be yearly ordeal headed into January- feb. Obviously players are going out , all lakers are vaccinated reportedly… just straight to hotel to the court restrictions

Covid usually hits the hardest during winter, in the spring/summer the cases go down.
Why not just have an annual 2 week pause during the winter until Covid becomes a thing of the past whenever that is.
In the grand scheme of things it might not be a bad idea. Players get rest, injuries heal and the 2nd half of the schedule is more anticipated.

I agree more prevalent in winter time but I done see this slowing down . Bubble restrictions will have to be enforced. They make millions of dollars so.. it’s shouldn’t be to hard at the end of day

In all honesty cross continent travel should have been a no go.
If you need a plane or boat to reach a destination and can't do it by land, your destination should be off limits. Just my 2 cents.

This is a really bad look for the league. Breakout cases do exist, but they are rare among those double vaccinated. My assumption is that teams didn't do their due diligence when confirming vaccination of players.
A two week pause might make sense, while mandating all players get boosters. After that point, when the season resumes, I think you rip the bandaid off. Only pull players out for positive tests. Not based on contacts/potential exposure.

Now that's the difference between first and last place.

I've seen many people say this but what is that going to do exactly? Covid isn't going away, maybe never, and Omricon is just scratching the surface of infecting this country so I don't think postponing the season is going to make a difference long term.
Just like in society, we'll just have to learn to live with it and accept the fact that some people are going to get Covid. I mean, isn't that why we got the vaccines, so we can function as a society even with Covid circulating? Obviously if the outbreak gets TOO out of hand, they'll probably have to pause for a little while but I don't think it's to that stage yet.

What’s stopping an undermanned team (but one that doesn’t quite qualify for postponed teams) from deeming all their players close contacts, wouldn’t that be considered a reason to put them in protocol?

Well, to bring the thread full circle, Lakers are the Bulls first opponent outta their pause. So, that could end up maybe being another postponement, depending on how many more Lakers test positive.Dr Aki wrote:Ballerhogger wrote:

People have paid for tickets already...What about the games that now have to be move back because of 2 weeks gone? This isn't last year. You can't just willy nilly wove games around. People have booked flights and have reservations. You can't just move the entire schedule and screw thousands of people's plans.

No it’s not. Look it up. I know plenty of people who got it twice.
Testing positive for it twice is different than getting it twice. Most people are asymptomatic the second time.
Catching it and spreading twice is so rare that it's not even worth talking about it.
