Re: The 2022 NBA Draft Thread
I need to see where Ivey's percentages either hold or fall by year's end.
I've liked what I've seen, but we have to keep in mind that this is someone who shot under 40% from the field and 25% from 3 as a freshman.
He looks the part 9 games in, but I don't want to be fooled by a small sample size for a player who's on the most dominant team in college basketball. Chet/Banchero are still firmly in my tier 1 of prospects. I'm TBD on Jabari/Ivey, but should have some more concrete opinions by January.

Re: The 2022 NBA Draft Thread
Jabari just has that kind of game that looks like it will translate quickly and develop nicely. Like Franz, he doesn’t look fluid when he moves but he gets the job done and he makes smart plays. Not sure I see a franchise player there, but looking like a potential very solid top 3 option for a good team.

Re: The 2022 NBA Draft Thread
Jaden Ivey is your typical college guard who is bit more faster, bit more athletic, bit more stronger than most players at that level are capable of guarding.
I'm not sure what happends to his game once everybody around him have similar, if not superior athletics, speed and strenget to his.
I'm also not really sold on idea that he is now exponentionally great shooter, especially how crappy his year 1 was.
It's also hard to figure what type of player Magic will prefer to draft. Can Weltman and Hammond feel comfortable drafting Chet Holmgren and be dumpsterfire again? Or they are on hot seat already and can't afford another crap of season?

Re: The 2022 NBA Draft Thread
Ivey looks like he robbed his shooting stroke from Fultz. Out from the body and flat trajectory. Almost a push.
That's not likely to fly in the pros.
He looks plenty athletic to me but he doesn't look a reliable shooter at the next level up.

I'll have to go back and see how Ja and Wade looked in college.jezzerinho wrote:Ivey looks like he robbed his shooting stroke from Fultz. Out from the body and flat trajectory. Almost a push.

Ja Morant is playmaker, he averaged 10 apg at college in second year.
Wade was simply beast, he averaged 18 ppg, 6,6 rpg, 3,4 apg, 2,5 steals, 1,1 blocks as freshmen

Wade was the same age as Ivey is now as a freshman. Wade turned 20 during his freshman season.pepe1991 wrote:basketballRob wrote:I'll have to go back and see how Ja and Wade looked in college.jezzerinho wrote:Ivey looks like he robbed his shooting stroke from Fultz. Purdue probably plays a higher level of competition than Marquette or Murray State. Purdue is in a major conference.

Plus, Wade played with the GOAT in Marquette with our lord Travis Diener so kinda unfair advantage...

Yeah. I don’t trust that shot yet. The rest of his game looks fine and Purdue has been great, but I don’t see advanced understanding or exceptional skills from Ivey. He looks similar to Dejounte Murray or a better version of RJ Hampton. A Suggs/Ivey backcourt could be pretty special at the defensive end though.
I think I prefer Smith to Banchero right now. Smith is a bit too methodical at this point, but that’s not a terrible thing. Otherwise, he looks really good. He doesn’t get sped up. I look forward to seeing more from him.

The Magic and Detroit are getting some separation from the rest of the pack. The Pelicans and OKC both have 8 wins and one of them will win the next game they play.

His per 40 numbers are similar to Durant in college. Smith is averaging 35.8 points per 100 possessions.KillMonger wrote:smith reminds me a bit of MPJ...real nice pull-up game

He's very skilled. The defense looks like it will be an issue. He has some playmaking chops, but he is very reckless. His shot selection is too loose and he looks borderline out of control when he attacks the paint. I think he'd be far more intriguing if he played like a conduit. As it is, he just looks like a gunner that is going to give up whatever he gets and then some.

Re: The 2022 NBA Draft Thread
First Wasserman mock since the NCAA season started.
1. Detroit - Chet Holmgren
2. Orlando - Paolo Banchero
While Jabari Smith's draft case has gotten stronger by the week, the Orlando Magic will be drawn to Paolo Banchero's creation for their frontcourt.
Banchero doesn't have Smith's shooting stroke, but he's the bigger threat to get his own shot or bucket in the half court. Aside from his isolation game (83rd percentile), he's also generated at least 20 points off post-ups, spot-ups, cuts and transition.
While Wendell Carter Jr. has taken a promising step forward in Orlando, he doesn't offer the same level of scoring versatility or offensive upside as Banchero. Bigs in the 6'10", 250-pound range don't usually self-create and shoot off the dribble (41.7 percent) like the Duke freshman, who has also made nine threes in eight games and is shooting 83.8 percent from the line.
3. New Orleans - Jabari Smith
4. Oklahoma City - Jaden Ivey
5. Houston - Jalen Duren
6. San Antonio - Bennedict Mathurin
7. Kings - Kendall Brown
8. Trail Blazers - Johnny Davis
9. Pacers - Jaden Hardy
10. Knicks - TyTy Washington

Based on what I have seen so far.. Im down with it. If JI doesn't really pan out, Im good with WCJ 3pt threat combined with Franz's overall offensive threat whether shooting passing or driving plus Paolo's scoring mentality.
Still... too early to tell. Lots of time for gys like PBJ , Duren and etc to raise their stocks.
