These findings suggest that boosting and promoting ‘affinity maturation’ of the antibodies of those who have previously been infected or vaccinated using existing Wuhan-hu-1 based vaccine immunogens will provide additional protection against Omicron variant infection and disease.

The emergence of the Omicron lineage that is phylogenetically distinct from the previously globally dominant Delta SARS-CoV-2 variant also illustrates the need for continuing vigilance and mitigation of virus transmission. The prior emergence, and global spread of the Alpha, Delta, and Omicron variants underscore our inability to predict the emergence of variants that might facilitate targeted vaccine development.

The findings described herein and the emergence of Omicron suggest that effort should be devoted to development of vaccination strategies that are broadly based rather than, or in addition to, those narrowly targeted at contemporary emergent SARS-CoV-2 variants.

We track vaccination status, and right now of the 26 (out of a 65 bed icu) patients with covid, 22 are unvaccinated. I don’t know the exact numbers of every hospital obviously, but speaking to my friends in the profession they describe similar numbers.

While we don’t despise the unvaccinated, most of us get the sense by making that “personal choice” and contributing to overcrowding/burnout - whatever you want to call it - you’re giving us a giant middle finger.

i’ve posted this previously: I’m a pulmonary/critical physician - ie one of those who directly take care of covid patients. We track vaccination status, and right now of the 26 (out of a 65 bed icu) patients with covid, 22 are unvaccinated. I don’t know the exact numbers of every hospital obviously, but speaking to my friends in the profession they describe similar numbers.

Also as I said earlier, no one knows the long term effects of these vaccines. Short term the risk is not high you will die from COVID. If the vaccines are working then in areas where the is 60-70 percent vaccinated the numbers should go down by that much but they aren’t. In fact, in the some of the most vaccinated areas they are seeing spike. I get what you are saying most patients are unvaccinated but they aren’t to blame for the spreading.
