Because the unvaccinated have spread it around enough over the past year that newer, more vaccine-resistant variants have emerged (Delta and Omicron).
No need to make this a us vs them thread. There are unvaccinated people everywhere so a small portion of unvaccinated people in us didn't cause this variant. I'm provax but some of this is inevitable.
Just f-ing sucks as we were close to the 1 seed. Also was sending my kids day care teachers teachers to the game and now they can't see Giannis.

It's better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

Mutating to become resistant to a vaccine that said unvaccinated person doesn't even have in their body?
I don't think you guys understand how resistance develops

Well I'd much rather it spreads thru the team now then playoff time.
Best case scenario, it goes thru the team now, everyone had 90 day antibodies... Then everyone takes 3rd Jab and has another 4 months of strong resistance. And team is clear of any risk come playoffs.

I'm not going to act like an expert, which you clearly are, but a virus will certainly mutate without the presence of a vaccination.

It's pretty simple, viruses develop resistance when there is evolutionary pressure for it do so and don't just magically develop resistance to things they never been in contact with. So if an unvaccinated person gets covid, what is the evolutionary pressure for it to develop vaccine resistance? Get it?

[*]Anyway.......
Kind of crazy that after this season there are only two years left on what once seemed like a massive immovable contract that would quickly put us in a bad spot. How wrong many of us were. Its going to be very interesting to see how we handle Middleton going forward. He already had an old man game in his 20s. Does this mean his twilight years will suit him well, or does losing even more athleticism do him in?
As much as i love our guys, we may have an opportunity to wipe the books aside from Giannis and try to lure a couple superstars to Milwaukee.

I have a feeling you hit on something that's going to be a big topic both in sports and in general the next 6 months. If Omicron proves to be a less severe but more contagious strain we absolutely need to reevaluate how we approach it.steger_3434 wrote:Almost everyone who is vaxed and gets omicron get extremely mild symptoms if any at all. Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Yep, vaccinated folks clear the virus quickly, leaving little opportunity for the virus to mutate within the host. Omicron was likely the result of a months long incubation in an immunosuppressed person who couldn't clear the virus as it replicated, mutated, replicated, mutated, etc.
The idea that a vaccine resistant virus requires a vaccine to become resistant rests on the belief that the mutations that make it vaccine resistant wouldn't make it more fit in the absence of a vaccine, which is obviously not the case, as the transmission rates among unvaccinated appear to be skyrocketing in areas where Omicron is prevalent. It's a more fit strain of the virus, period. Hopefully less virulent.

Re: Bucks News, Trade Ideas, Transactions
Just really quickly, I think we need to be clear about what we mean when we say a "mild" case of Covid. To this point it has *not* meant a very minor cold. It's encompassed a super wide range of symptoms; basically has just meant any case that does not require hospitalization. You can have what amounts to the flu for two weeks and then end up with Long Covid and it can still be classified as mild.
That said of course if it's true that Omicron is a cold for people who aren't immunologically naive, then that obviously merits a major revision of Covid policy.

I think the confusion stems from thinking of bacteria that can indeed evolve to become resistant to antibiotics. Viruses reproduce differently and vaccines are effective at limiting mutation opportunities.

You're aware of certain evolutionary concepts without understanding them at all, which is worse than just admitting you need help with them, but you seem to be trying to grasp it so maybe it's worth a shot trying to clear up your confusion.
Mutations are pretty much just random. Rampant spread among unvaccinated people gives the virus more chances to randomly mutate into something that happens to be different enough from the original pathogen to be vaccine-resistant. To try to connect it back to your misconception, it "is in contact with" the vaccine constantly by trying to spread to vaccinated people and has "evolutionary pressure" to be resistant to the vaccine when the randomly-gained ability to spread to vaccinated people makes a new variant better equipped to spread than previous variants.

Too bad about Donte. Wanted to see him play some DEFENSE tonight.
On another semi-related note: Can someone explain to me how vaccines can make things worse as far as ending this pandemic? I'll hang up and listen.

One must consider the setting and likelihood of your post getting wiped before replying fwiw, seems like they’re letting it go right now. This virus evolves like 30x faster than the flu and if what you are saying is true about random mutations leading to new strains that are able to evade vaccines without even coming into contact with them which are then are able to gain additional resistance in an infected vaccinated person then I don’t see that cycle ever changing no matter how many strain specific boosters they develop, luckily for us viruses tend to evolve to become more virulent & less deadly rather than complete runaway train.
That’s assuming the vaccines provides much if any protection against the spread rather than just severe illness, we’ve known for a long time that vaccinated can get sick, carry similar viral load, and die too. Remember what I was responding to, don’t blame unvaccinated people(many of which have actually had covid already some multiple times) for vaccinated boosted people getting infected since it was inevitable, blame those responsible for engineering the virus this way. Even if 100% of people were vaccinated it wouldn’t achieve herd immunity, covid is endemic and here forever.
