I am 100% on board with a Brown for KAT swap. I'm sure other pieces would be involved, but KAT is a guy that I think needs a fresh start and will thrive in an environment like Boston.
I think people are absolutely sleeping on how unstoppable a Tatum/KAT tandem would be.
KAT and Sabonis just don't do it for me. KAT is a pretty if not very bad defensive player. Bad by the eye test, advanced stats, defensive rating while he's on the floor, opponents shooting percentage at the rim, ect. And he plays the most important defensive position on the floor. It's REALLY hard to win in the NBA with a bad defensive center.
Also, putting aside weather the C's should/would want him there is absolutely zero reason MIN would do a KAT for Jaylen swap. Those guys have the same number of years left on their deal, so if the fear from MIN is that KAT is gonna leave at the end of his contract then why exactly are they trading for a guy with the same number of years who is even LESS likely to have any loyalty to the organization? No if they trade KAT it's to rebuild completely around Anthony Edwards.
IND might be more willing to do a Sabonis/Brown swap because they might wnat to try and stay relevant with a Brogdon/Brown/Turner core, but i also just think Sabonis is massively overated by this board. The KAT thing I think you at least have to consider on the basis of pure talent even if I'm not sure I'd do it. Sabonis is a mediocre defender, non shooting center. Just doesnt have the value people think he does.
Only reason Minnesota may trade for brown is the belief if he was paid a max he would stay but idk find it hard to believe Taylor sends another franchise corner stone to Boston if he ever demanded out but......
based on previous convos is it fair to say you wouldn’t trade Jaylen for ; harden, dame, beal or KAT?....... whose left you’d actually move him for
Harden and Lillard are for me hard no's, we've had the Harden discussion before obviously. I just don't want to trade Jaylen for an aging star in their thirties making 40+ million. That approach doesn't make sense to me to pair with your 23-24 Tatum.
Rereading above i don't think I was being clear. I have issues with KAT as a player, but I WOULD do a Jaylen for KAT swap. I just wouldn't do it now, I need to see if Jaylen and Tatum can make it work over the next 12-18 months. After that I'd do it as long as we don't have to throw in a bunch of stuff WITH Jaylen. If its Jaylen + Langford + a first? Sure, that's fine. I'm just trying to make the point that the swap isn't the clear, absolute, no brainer that a lot of people seem to think. There are very real reasons why i suspect it might not work if your ultimate goal is a championship. But if it becomes clear over the next 12-18 months that Jaylen + Tatum isn't working either than sure, bet on pure talent which KAT is swimming in.
I'm not making a lateral or worse move. Sabonis, Beal, Simmons are roughly lateral moves to me. The c's aren't out of options yet. Before I trade Jaylen I would take all the picks and young players you have and go try to find the c's version of Jrue Holiday. A third banana who is a good glue guy.
If it feels like there's not many guys I would trade Jaylen for.... ya, that's true. He's a wing. He's on a great contract, he has a highly valuable skill set, he's 25. Those type of guys don't typically end up getting traded, unless they demand out or the team they are on rebuilds. We are better off trying to add to the Jaylen+Tatum pairing than trying to swap Jaylen for another star, imo.
