Yeah, I really thought Kemba was gonna be good for us
But I think I nailed this:K-DOT wrote:

it's all very childish to do this of course. but this one seemed obvious to me and i was dumbfounded at how many people felt really positive about it. aggressively so. i had people who always liked me on here tell me basically they don't like me anymore for saying this was bad.

Yeah, pretty childish, especially since Fournier has been much better in the past, and we're not halfway through season 1 with him
Of course, even if he does return to form, it's still an overpay, especially if Randle doesn't get back to last year's level, but you'd be able to move him, and the last year is at least non-guaranteed
I think a lot of us, myself included, thought that guys were gonna at least stay as good as they were last year (mostly Randle and RJ, but to a lesser extent Mitch and Quick too), but really only Obi has taken a step forward, everyone else has regressed. So I can still defend being positive about it at the time, but with hindsight, it was pretty bad
At least with Kemba, Noel, and Burks, they're expirings next year. Rose too, but he's actually playing well.

He is basically our ATL Boggy
He's a terrible defender, and unlike the Hawks we don't have Hunter/Reddish to throw at wing players. He's also a awful playoff performer over his career (11ppg, 35% FG 30% 3FG)
We're now asking RJ to be our lone perimeter defender in the starting 5.

I don't disagree with that, but there is an argument that being just good but making the playoffs is enticing for star players, either for them to force a trade or to sign with you outright
Like, the Nets went from 20 to 28 to 42 wins, lost in 5 in the first round, and Kyrie and KD still wanted to go there
Clippers haven't been great either, but Kawhi and PG wanted to team up there
You can also argue that if the moves had worked out to them just being okay, that's still assets we could use to trade for Dame, for example, or guys to surround him with, or to get another star to pair with him. More valuable than raw cap space
I think that's what the plan was, and it has failed miserably so far. The hope was, Randle would still be Randle, and RJ would take that next step, but that isn't happening
I'll still be optimistic about things, I'll still root for the young guys to grow and say, you never know what's gonna happen, who's gonna be available tomorrow, but it's a lot of luck and we're not really putting ourselves in a premium position to make luck.

He plays no defense at all, he only cares about shooting and taking difficult and stupid shots.
Is he an excellent shooter? Yes, he is. But he absolutely lacks criteria.
He's not a leader in and off the court, he's the definition of a chucker.
The best thing I can wish to you is that I hope you trade him asap.

Here's the thing, though -
Is it spiteful and petty when certain people are so flagrant with their opinions and belittling your own in the process? There are plenty of people who act like dicks and know it alls when posting, trying to make you look like a hater and an idiot for disagreeing. I think if that's your approach to posting then you deserve the backlash when your "genius" ideas fail miserably. Some people need humble pie.

I'm not mad at us for passing on DeRozan tbh. I don't know that he would've had the same level of impact on this team. I don't necessarily think it'd have been a good move.
I'm mad at us for signing Fournier. That move was substraction by addition.

DeRozan would not have the same space he gets in Chicago in a Knicks starting team. Instead of Lonzo, Lavine, Vuc, Caruso, he would play with no reliable 3 pt threat in Randle, Mitch/Noel, RJ, and whatever PG we could get with no Cap Space left. Maybe the plan was to bring Payton back for the MLE.
