Re: 2021 College Football Discussion
Hilarious in general, but even better Deion stole him away from FSU.
I do wonder how Hunter will feel when Sanders gets a job elsewhere. He's too good of a recruiter (apparently) for someone not to eventually come calling. And I know his son is with him at JSU, but...I mean come on.

The level of salt in this thread made me laugh.
I'm really enjoying the college football 'purist' tears with all this. Just a bunch of losers.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

You're 100% correct, but it's become a technicality because of the weird-ass way the NCAA has labeled their football divisions. FBS and FCS are both considered D1, but most people think of D1 being one entity, D2 being the next entity, etc. It's all dumb.

If by college sports you specifically mean football, I think it will, truthfully. This won't last long. Someone's going to get angry/power hungry and break-off for their own independent, it's-really-pro-but-called-pre-pro league. The guys with the most talent, need the cash the most, or think they have NFL talent will go there. I'm not sure academic institutions will have the balls to dip into that sort of foray...well, the SEC probably does.

Yea, the SEC's already done that, with the biggest programs outside of already making the jump. About the only thing the other conferences can do is create their super league, but they'll never attract the talent that the SEC gets and thus will always be a secondary league.

Re: the "burn it all down" stuff will be interesting because you still have to find a way to keep it attached to the universities. Maybe that's the plan.
Put an "Orlando Defenders" jersey on these 20-year-old 5-star NFL prospects and I doubt I'll tune in. Put Florida Gators on and I'm turning it on on Saturday afternoon. It's stupid and doesn't make a ton of sense but I'm clearly attached to Wisconsin and other schools.
Similar to basketball, I have no problem with guys getting paid, getting to leave and play wherever they want, etc. but if guys are forced to play a year of non-NBA/pro ball or are simply in that tier of guys that will be pros but need a year or two of seasoning, I'm watching them play at Duke but I'm not turning on the G-League or Australian League or whatever.

A BIG reason college football is so successful is the schadenfreude and the knowledge that a win or a loss can bring incredible misery to such a massive amount of people. You saw it yesterday that it even extends to recruiting. No one was really happy for Jackson State when they landed the best recruit in the country; they were all reveling in FSU fan misery. To enjoy college football is entirely about enjoying other fan bases eat ****.
So yup, put the same talent in a minor league system on teams that no one care about, and interest falls off a cliff.

Re: 2021 College Football Discussion
Isn't the most likely scenario that a group of the large schools basically leave the NCAA football and create their own league with their own rules but they will still be associated with the college? Basically a 30-40 team league that will get most of the pro prospects and operate like a professional league. Then the rest of college football will still be the NCAA and be actual amateur football.ReasonablySober wrote:Kerb Hohl wrote:Re: the "burn it all down" stuff will be interesting because you still have to find a way to keep it attached to the universities. A 32-team "Superconference" has been talked about since the final days of the BCS. Back then the teams who would've gotten invited had to have played in X amount of BCS games or won a title. Badgers would've ended up in a "North" division with the 7 B10 teams that have consistently been the best over the years and Notre Dame.
They should really just move to this, and then have relegation/promotion so teams like Cincy can get cycled in.

I’m kind of out on college football.
All the stuff that made it unique and special is gone and dead.
Race to the bottom under way.

We'd been cheering them on from the General OT thread on the Bucks board

All the head injury stuff has just soured me on football all together. I still watch the Badgers and Packers, and generally follow along, but I don't care anywhere near as much as I did a decade ago.

The South Carolina coach is going to get a "Gatorade bath" of mayo and honestly, sometimes that's what I dream about too.
