2021-22 NBA Rookie Thread (part 4)
Here's the continuation of the Rookie Thread...
Lots of terrific young guys to discuss so here's the place for all of your rookie discussion, hype, and well-reasoned criticism.
Part 3 got a little heated and became a Mobley/Barnes death match. Let's try to avoid that this time around. Please don't insult each other for preferring one guy over another. And don't troll.
Thanks and enjoy!
(Continued from part 3 here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2140500 )
P.S. Jalen Suggs was removed from the poll this time. He's out with injury and wasn't getting votes even before that. Jalen Green is also out right now but will remain in the poll for the time being. Davion Mitchell is back as a choice this time around. Herb Jones, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, and Ayo Dosunmu just missed the cut.

Cade has the highest ceiling but his inconsistency is worrying sign.

Almost all rookies are very inconsistent, at least offensively even Mobley and Barnes have been.srhcan wrote:Cade has the highest ceiling but his inconsistency is worrying sign.

He had a terrible start, after that he has been consistent He has been an efficient scorer, and a TO machine, very consistent in those 2 areas. He also has been a good rebounder.
He has been inconsistent on defense fwiw, sometimes he is brilliant, some times he just loses his guy.

All rookies are inconsistent. He hasn't even played 30 NBA games yet.

Mobley and Barnes have better teammates. Allen should be an all-star, Garland has been very good and now Love. Similarly Fred may get 1-2 votes for all-star and Siakam has also been pretty good in some games. But Cade has no one. The weight of whole franchise is on his shoulders. He needs help.K_chile22 wrote:Almost all rookies are very inconsistent, at least offensively even Mobley and Barnes have been.srhcan wrote:Cade has the highest ceiling but his inconsistency is worrying sign.

I would argue he has been pretty consistently on an upward trajectory all season.

Evan Mobley and Scottie Barnes vs. negative players on under .500 teams.
East #1 Draft Picks: Fultz, Banchero, Wiggins, Cuninigham
West #1 Draft Picks: Edwards, WIlliamson, Ayton, Towns

The top 4 of Mobley, Barnes, Cade and Franz have been sensational.
I think the ROTY race is between Mobley and Barnes right now simply because rookies generally don't play such big roles on +0.500 teams (i know the raptors are technically below 0.500 right now but they could easily end up above 0.500 by the end of the season).

I watched some of the Toronto game last night... not a fan of how much Barnes is ignored. I feel like he could be doing more on a team like the magic... maybe his efficiency suffers with less attention on others but he just has 'it'. His shot is a work in progress... when he misses, it's UGLY but the efficiency actually is good. I'm shocked that he's shooting 37% from 3 already. Toronto has a keeper in Barnes.

Two first-team selections (both forward spots; one is not enough to recognize his greatness).

It's only a matter of time before its undeniable that he is Toronto's go-to player. Right now Nurse needs to ego check guys like FVV and Siakam who grinded their way and have earned those possessions.

As much as i love the way Barnes has looked and think he's a legit future superstar, ROY is Mobley's hands down. He's legit one of the best defenders in the league; not one of the best rookies, one of the overall best defenders. To the point where he should be getting DPOY chatter and at least 2nd team ALL-NBA defense

Cavs are beating the Rockets by 30 WITHOUT Mobley. This means the reason why the Cavs improved this season is Rubio and not Mobley, thus Barnes is your ROY.

Agree to disagree. Barnes leads the way in majority of the statistical categories. Mobley's been terrific but there's also a pretty big gap offensively between the two (i.e. Scottie is significantly better). It'll be a tight race all the way till the end of the season.
Also think if the Pistons and Magic didn't have such abysmal records, Wagner and Cade would be getting a lot more recognition as well.

I agree that I don't like how Barnes gets ignored but that's usually how it is for most rookies that have veterans on the squad.
Also, maybe Barnes wouldn't be the same player with the Magic? I will stroke our ego of being able to develop most players here

Don't get carried away The Raptors didn't develop this kid this quick. Just be happy that they made a great pick.
