GOP collusion with Trump on path to be proven. All below from:
https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/a38530093/jim-jordan-text-mark-meadows-electoral-count/
Oh, Congressman Jim Jordan, you noisy, jacketless, spotlight-gobbling omadhaun. Bennie Thompson has teed you up right properly. It was your turn in Bennie’s barrel on Wednesday, boyo. Enjoy it. From Politico:
Rep. Jim Jordan’s (R-Ohio) office confirmed that he is the sender of a text message to former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, partially revealed this week by the Jan. 6 committee.
Here's the full text:
It's probably a waste of time to point out that a) as much as we all love the Federalist Papers, they were a series of newspaper columns with the specific political purpose of ginning up support for a Constitution that hadn’t been ratified yet, and b) Hubbard v. Lowe was a case involving the constitutionality of the Cotton Futures Act and, as such, has no value in judging the constitutionality of how Mike Pence conducted the constitutional powers of his office. It’s like citing Marbury v. Madison while appealing a decision by your condo board. But chasing after everything Jim Jordan doesn’t know anything about is an exhausting pursuit.
What’s clear is that the committee investigating the events of January 6 has made it quite plain that Jordan was hip-deep in the parliamentary front of the general assault on the democratic process, and that, if this week is any indication, Chairman Thompson is a pretty deft hand at the drip-drip-drip school of persuasion for reluctant potential witnesses.

“On January 6, 2021, Vice President Mike Pence, as President of the Senate, should call out all the electoral votes that he believes are unconstitutional as no electoral votes at all — in accordance with guidance from founding father Alexander Hamilton and judicial precedence. ‘No legislative act,’ wrote Alexander Hamilton in Federalist No. 78, ‘contrary to the Constitution, can be valid.’ The court in Hubbard v. Lowe reinforced this truth: ‘That an unconstitutional statute is not a law at all is a proposition no longer open to discussion.’ 226 F. 135, 137 (SDNY 1915), appeal dismissed, 242 U.S. 654 (1916).”

Traveled between NYC and DC area by car today.
Can confirm at rest stops mask use at about...75% in NJ.
I get a lot of people have the vaccine. That's great. Of course, we don't know who among the maskless does or doesn't. Of course, the mask isn't some magic cure all, or, how I have to explain to even among some normally intelligent friends, that it's not a protective mask, but a kind of cheap prophylactic at cutting down the amount of particles in the air for OTHERS, not yourself. Have another friend who is vaccinated, but got Covid, got sick. He's a kind of borderline person when it comes to thinking clearly, but as a result considers himself a Covid expert now whereby the vaccines don't work and it's a sham.
I mean, the nuttiness is on a spectrum. I see mask fatigue driving some dumb opinions, and apparently, actions.
Besides the hard core anti vaxxers or the hard core political anti vaxxers.

You probably have the same chance of dying driving to work in the morning and dying of Covid if you're vaxxed.

If someone won’t vax they more often than not also don’t mask, so if you’re in zones where 75% wear masks that falls pretty closely in line with the vaccination percentages too. IOW, in those areas the unmasked are much more likely to also be unvaccinated
Where I am that deduction wouldn’t hold true. I talk to people all the time who are vaccinated who no longer mask. It hovers at around 25% wherever I go around here so there won’t be any correlation here. What it does mean though is it should spread faster here now

It’s an interesting comparison because while it can be edgy to make jokes about 9/11 or bring up whatever alternative explanation for it I would really not do that on New York forums because you just don’t know how many lost a friend or co worker or family member etc in 9/11 and you just want to be a decent person with respect
Meanwhile how many New Yorkers died of COVID especially in spring 2020 looks like 10x that amount of 9/11 my wife and I at the time both worked in health care me at Lenox Hill and her in Harlem and in a Covid tent and we had co-workers die and saw trucks of dead bodies and we have these smug mf’ers on here who want to peddle their bs. Personally I’m of the opinion that if you don’t want to take a vaccine or mask or whatever don’t do it but I’m tired of these folks acting like they’re so smart and woke and we vaccinated are just a bunch of sheep or whatever seriously cram your unsolicited and uneducated opinion about vaccines that you got from Joe rogan and Alex Jones or “Americas frontline doctors” directly up your ass and let us go with what the CDC recommends in peace
i know better than jumping in these threads but here i am. prefacing this so no confusion - no offence meant, but i can't get to a place of not giving af about those who choose not to mask up or get vaxxed. they're putting other's lives at risk and are responsible for this to continuing on. F em.

That’s a lot of Americans, but I hear ya. We’re not a collaborative society. When a much worse virus happens it will wipe out a good part of the American population that will act like everything is hunky dory

Our new Republican Nassau County Executive, Bruce Blakeman, just announced that he will defy NY Gov. Hochul’s mask mandate. In what can only be seen as a big win, the large businesses here responded that they will be enforcing it!
Nonetheless, the brainless here - of which there are many - agree with Blakeman. Patch.com is the only LI newspaper that will permits comments anymore. Read these and you’ll see why.

So given the quick and easy transmission of this variant, can it be contracted outdoors if you within 5 feet of another unmasked person?

I got a head cold. I never get sick, but I can’t escape catching something here with so many unmasked. At least it’s not covid, just clear runny nose and sneezes for a few days.

Re: OT: The Official COVID/Delta Variant+ thread
I am TRIPLE vaxxed, wear a mask religiously, wash hands frequently, socially distance when possible, all of that. Yet, I tested positive earlier this week -- and so did a dozen of my coworkers.
Omicron is running through NYC like water and it doesn't give a sh*t about the vaccine. Pfizer and Moderna are no match for it. Granted, the vax was not meant to prevent getting COVID and I'm thankful I almost certainly won't be hospitalized or on my death bed. But, Omicron is so contagious that it's not a matter of IF you will get it, but WHEN you will get it!
Stay safe!

That’s what the data is starting to show. There was also a report today saying there is no evidence Omicron is weaker.
IOW, It may very well be it is way more contagious, but it can still make you just as sick as earlier variants.
All of which means the unvaccinated are going to put the health system to the test once again. And plenty of vaccinated people will get some symptoms even if they don’t get very sick.
I expect that I’ve either gotten it already or will in the future. Florida is a petri dish. I researched my current symptoms and it either means I have a common head cold or this is how I respond to covid having been vaccinated. I’m pretty sure it is just a head cold.

I hate to say it, but at this point, if you aren't vaxxed and it's not because of a medical condition, don't really care if those people take their beliefs to an early grave. Keep enjoying the courage of your convictions folks!

Way higher depending on the drive. Also a traffic accident doesn't care about your co-morbidities. But the fear porn is addictive for some people and I think it's comforting for some who just can't deal with the real world to begin with. Explosion in testing means explosion in cases, who cares. It's hospitalizations, and deaths we care about (we being people who can do math) and all the data from SA and UK point to what everyone in epidemiology who wasn't trying to play politics knew all along.
For example compare 17-19% severe rate for delta vs 1-2% for this latest variant. It's not exactly apples to apples because overall immunity should have gone up since July via vaccination and acquired immunity but it's a large enough statistical outlier to say it's a milder strain. Soon it'll be one of the 500+ that make up the seasonal flu, or be one of the 200+ coronavirii associated with the common cold (the rest are mostly rhinoviruses).
