Hawks make the long rumored Reddish for a first trade (to Hou)
Rockets send: Eric Gordon, Heat/Nets 2022 pick
Hawks send: Cam Reddish, Solo Hill and Wright
Hawks get a short term talent upgrade and a FRP
Rockets clear the cap sheet a bit and get Reddish. Would have to figure out roster spots tho

Looks crappy for the Hawks. I'm not seeing the "short term talent upgrade" at all.

Doesn't really make sense for Houston who needs to open up a roster spot for Garison Mathews.

I think this is fair if the Hawks really are open to moving Reddish for a pick. Gordon can fill in the backup PG minutes better than Wright.
I think Reddish alone can likely return a slightly better pick...so I think it depends on if the Gordon part holds enough value for the Hawks.

Houston just cuts Solo Hill and Wright and looks to trade House into a TPE or another player that can be cut.
edit...So house would need to moved 1st here and still leave Houston with a need to open a roster spot before they can cut Hill and Wright. So not as easy as I thought.

Re: Hawks make the long rumored Reddish for a first trade (to Hou)
They'd probably have to waive House to get to a place where this trade is legal, but yeah if they really wanted to they can make a spot for Mathews after this, but they may opt to play the RFA game depending on what kind of deal Mathews wants. Apparently he declined an offer from Washington last year so I don't think he's interested in "hinkie special" type dealspsman2 wrote:Colbinii wrote:Doesn't really make sense for Houston who needs to open up a roster spot for Garison Mathews.

Trae 30M (more if he makes all nba)
Collins 23.5M
Capela 18M
Bogdanovic 18M
Huerter 14.5M
Hunter 10M
Okongwu 6M
Johnson 3M
thats ~125M for their core 8. Adding Gordon pushes them over the tax i think

No, in the 2022-23 season. They are going to need to do something with Gallo (or similar amount of salary), else be a taxpayer.

My rough math has them at 155m for 10 players after this trade while eating 5m on Gallo. So looks in the tax for sure even if they dump Gallo's money after rookie contracts and filling out the roster.

Welp that would seem to kill this unless swapping Gallo for Wright is something they're intoGodaddycurse wrote:K_chile22 wrote:I thought their tax issues came the following year, no?Godaddycurse wrote:Not sure Hawks can afford gordon next year

Edit: oh Gallo isn't guaranteed. NVM.

That looks roughly right, maybe a little less if they go bare minimum. The year after thing get really gnarly--Hunter needs an extension and Reddish too, and they don't free up $ unless they dump someone important like Huerter or Bogs.
That's the reason for a trade like this. Turn in Reddish for a win-now-ish rental this year and a cheap pick that might be useful down the line. Next year Reddish will have less value precisely for that reason.

Exactly my thinking but it seems like maybe a 1 year rental vs the two year Gordon rental would be ideal

Hawks aren’t going to be interested in 33 yr Eric Gordon at all especially with the contract…& certainly not for Reddish. Late 1sts aren’t interesting either.

Re: Hawks make the long rumored Reddish for a first trade (to Hou)
I'm not sure that I would give up a first for Reddish right now, unless it was heavily protected. He hasn't shown much in terms of consistency in his first 2 years in the league, including with his health, but he has the kind of build that a team will overpay for in restricted free agency. Hard to give up a 1st and pay that contract for an unproven player, and if you give up a first you are kind of forced to give him an above market contract.
The best comps I have for Reddish in a trade is Grayson Allen and Landry Shamet. Somehow, Landry Shamet gets traded for a late 1st rd pick every year, but typically on draft night when the value of the pick is known. Allen was traded for 2 2nd rd picks on draft night.

I feel the same but Reddish has defensive tools and upside Allen nor Shamet can't sniff. Reddish has shown major inconsistency and could be a total-blown 1st but he has the tools, and he has improved each season so far.
This feels very close value-wise, the only thing I could think of is for Hou to add a top 18 protection, maybe ask for a future 2nd.

Gordon is oft injured, 33 and making $19 million next season - so a very easy no.

You can be certain that's why the Hawks haven't traded Cam.
