I would do this. If the kings hate buddy enough to dump him for expirings. Hield would thrive in our lineup

The challenge there is it puts us into the tax by around 7m - ish this season.

The best part about Buddy however is his deal declines but even if you don't keep Bagley with current commitments we end up around 132m in committed salary next season against a wall of 134m-ish for the tax apron.

I hope we approach Dorian Finney Smith in the offseason. He'd be a great add IMO. Always liked his game.

The teams greatest weakness is its bench player. The root cause of that glaring issue is lack of guard play.

Shared this in another thread but we should prioritize acquiring an actual point guard at the deadline. A player that can come off the bench and help create for others. Three guys immediately popup in my head: Tyus Jones, Patrick Beverely, & TJ McConnell.

I think all 3 can be had for cheap. Pacers as we know it are entering a rebuild and TJ doesn't make sense for them. He's 29yrs old and is on a team friendly deal. (4yr/7.5mil AAV). He's a great faciliator and also a pesky defender but the only downside is that he's not a good shooter.

Tyus Jones and Pat Bev are the other two options. Tyus is an expiring and the Grizzlies have a plethora of guards already (Morant, Bane, Melton, Konchar). They're pretty thin up front and Clarke is also injured. A Boucher for Jones swap possible? Both on 1yr/7mil deals. Jones is a decent defender but a great facilitator with a high basketball IQ and is also a solid shooter.

Pat Bev might be the most hated player in this league (and this forum) but he'd be a great fit on this squad. A pesky defender, great at facilitating for others, and is more than capable of shooting the 3ball. Him and Barnes would get along quite well, lol. Maybe a Dragic for Bev 1 for 1 swap? Only thing that makes sense really.

Out of the 3 tho, I'd prefer Jones and TJ for sure.

Any trade we make this year is going to be about positioning us as a contender in the future. We are still on a rebuild timeline and Masai won't and shouldn't be giving up assets for any form of rental..

Yeah. I'm sure any guess/prediction will be wrong, but it's a fairly straight line to this:

1. 10th pick or so, draft a ballhandler to run the bench unit
2. In 2023, trade Birch's expiring final year and an MLE contract and a future first for a starting center

Center/Precious
Siakam/Barnes
Barnes/OG
OG/Trent
Flynn/2022 1st

and Banton is the final rotation guy
Where's the D?

December 15 was supposed to be the big day where a bunch of players now become tradeable right?

How soon before you guys think teams start to make moves

There are some more players that were extended with a 20%+ raise in the off-season that will be eligible by Jan 15.

I was listening to a podcast that mentioned last time a deal was done on Dec 15 was way back in 2010. So my guess is there won’t be much activity until the new year.

Certainly Gary's not available to trade until Jan. 15th, although I thought the delayed date depended on whether a team went over the cap to sign the player. Man, the rules are so arcane.

I used to think of Gary as an obvious trade chip, but now I have no idea what would be a good enough return to trade him for. Certainly not Myles Turner (although I would have traded Norm for Turner last year).

Bingo!

This is a year for the play in if possible and if we don't advance then get a top 14 pick.

Add in another future 1st rounder for trading Dragic and Boucher expiring for longer contracts.

Barnes
Banton
Precious
Malachi

These are the young guys to keep developing and giving extra reps whenever injuries happen. Key here is to unlock any high end skill set that we can. Barnes is obvious but Banton as a future starting tall pg, precious as your future small ball mobile 5 with range and Malachi as a scoring and defending option.

Yuta
Champagnei
Birch

These are role players on decent salaries you keep developing to fit in as your options 7,8 or 9 players. Basically do all the dirty work for us and hit the open shot, rebound and set good picks.

Siakam
Fvv

Ideally you want them to be your option 2, 3 or 4 on a championship team. Great defenders, can pass and hit big shots. Switch when you need to and be vets when we are ready to contend.

Og
Gtjr

These are still developing young guys. Either they become all stars or at worst a really amazing 3+d options. Trent can be that microwave scorer off the bench with solid improving defence and play 2 or 3. OG we haven't seen enough off this year but ideally he fits in that option 2, 3 or 4 on a contender.

If we get lucky and add a top 10 pick this year we add more to the stockpile of tradable assets. Add in perhaps a future 1st and 2nd rounder by trading Dragic and Boucher for even more talent to trade.

I think making the playoffs as a top 4 seed is the goal next year for sure.and perhaps contend the year after.

Don't put any limits, keep playing and improving and see where we land.

Next free agency class we should aim for is 2024. Hopefully we extend fvv and pascal on solid contracts in the 25 mill range. Add in og and perhaps a maxed out scottie the year before would still leave us room a max player.

Alternatively we could get a 2023 expiring contract for Dragic and Boucher and then add all our extra picks and some young players as well as Trent for a second star.

There is a pretty good opportunity to fill those gaps right now if we can land Sabonis and Lavert. Of course it will require trading a core piece and a bunch of draft capital.

I would love sabonis if possible. He can rebound and his passing skills are needed cause Fred can be a ball hog. I think his defence is better than advertised too. It might cost us og but I think there’s so much overlap between og, Scottie and pascal that I’m ok with that.

I don’t think it would take a ton of draft capital to get Sabonis and Levert. It would probably cost us OG and one of our centres plus Flynn.

I'd argue OG impacts the game more than Sabonis. Also Sabonis hated Nate Bjorkren's defense as he prefers to drop back more instead of chasing on the perimeter (from the Athletic article) He won't fit what we want to do on defense if thats his attitude imo, and Bjorkren's on our staff now lol

I don’t get trading Trent at all. We have damn near zero guard play outside of Gary and FVV. The reason we lose every game is a lack of a stable C and no bench play whatsoever. We don’t have enough good NBa players to be making a package deal for anyone using any of our starters

Would definitely look at buying low on Bagley, I think the majority of the Kings would do much better with a change of scenery. But he has some significant tools and fits with the raptors timeframe. I don't want Buddy at all, but if he's acquired to match rosters and then sent off during the off-season, I'm for it.

Cory Joseph could be a cheap pickup that would bring some experience to our bench.

Cory did come to mind but he's a poor defender at this stage of his career.

I'd go after him for sure. Young TMac, just needs to change teams.
