Game 27: Utah Jazz (19-7) vs Los Angeles Clippers (16-12)

Post#1 » by Inigo Montoya » Tue Dec 14, 2021 9:30 am

I wonder if the Clippers will choose to play as they did against us in the playoffs, especially after Leonard got injured, with a small lineup of guards and forwards, or if they will opt to keep it for the playoffs in order to not allow the Jazz to have more experience against this type of lineup.

Also, PG13 and Batum (and obviously Leonard) are currently listed as OUT, which somehow makes a Jazz loss more likely, as per tradition.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

Great point. For all the talk about us having a plausible small ball center now, we have very few minutes playing small and very few minutes playing against a good small ball lineup.

I hope Batum and George play tomorrow and we see some small best test of Gay versus Batum.

Clips have a very impressive win-loss record considering all the man injury games they've lost from key players. They beat Phoenix last night playing without George, Batum and of course Leonard. Imo, they still have to be considered one of the top two or three teams that I prefer the Jazz don't draw in the playoffs if healthy.

Phoenix was playing without Booker or Ayton. It was a battle of the backups for both teams.

Thanks. I forgot Ayton was out in addition to Booker.

Jazz are really picking teams apart lately. Nice.

The Jazz have been really dominating fourth quarters. Last night they outscored the shorthanded Clippers 31-22 in Q4. Over the eight game win streak, the Jazz are leading the league in Q4 scoring at 33.1 ppg on an incredible 70.4 TS% with a 6.4 plus minus. For the season overall, the Jazz lead the league in Q4 scoring at 29.1 ppg on 62.3 TS% with a 4.4 plus minus. Last season the Jazz led the league for Q4 scoring with 28.4 ppg, but they only had a 1.2 plus minus. Go Jazz!

Nice to see Clarkson have an efficient shooting game. Maybe starting out his play with an assist to Whiteside instead of a difficult three and then looking for more two point shots in the paint versus three point shots helped his efficiency.

Gobert finally got a compliment from an opposing player, but in a backhanded way where the player's intent was to diss the other Jazz players. Apparently in the post game comments, Marcus Morris said something along the lines that all the Jazz players play crap defense except Gobert, and they all rely on Gobert to bail them out. Some Jazz posters have said roughly the same thing, but not quite so harshly.

I don't expect an opposing player who is a known instigator and trash talker to say it nicely, and he is kinda right.
