IND/CHA/POR (Blazers commit to the present for Dame)

Post#1 » by GeorgeMarcus » Sat Dec 18, 2021 1:12 am

This took a major turn from my last thread so I decided to start a new one. This time I omitted Philly and am operating under the assumption that the Blazers keep Dame.

Indy trades: Sabonis, Lamb
Indy receives: McCollum, 1st (POR), 2 2nds (POR)

They balance the roster and improve draft stock. Brogdon/McCollum would make a great back court IMO and they would really be able to showcase CJ's scoring prowess.

Charlotte trades: Hayward
Charlotte receives: Nurkic, Lamb, 1st (POR)

They acquire 2 well-fitting players with expiring contracts in preparation for Bridges' pay day. It would be hard to invest so much money in 2 offensively-oriented forwards, and Bridges' timeline makes more sense as they build around LaMelo. Lamb began his journey with the Hornets and Nurk, with any luck, would re-sign after building a rapport with the team. He's the kind of defensive anchor that would add a much-needed dimension to the team.

Portland trades: McCollum, Nurkic, 2 1sts, 2 2nds
Portland receives: Sabonis, Hayward

They balance the roster a bit and improve win-now aspirations. Dame/Powell/Hayward/Covington(Nance?)/Domas looks good on paper and the name Sabonis already means something in Portland.

Edit) Upgraded the Hornet's incoming pick to a 1st; gave Indy 2 2nds instead of sending 1 out

if mccollum had this much value then simmons would have already been traded to the blazers

This is very far off for Indiana, and I think also brings them above the tax line? But I think this is like a couple unprotected 1sts away.

Seems too good to be true for Portland.

I don't think Indiana wants CJ and I don't think Hayward would be available for Nurkic.

Obviously it's a yes for me from Portland's perspective.

Interesting, it seems I'm undervaluing Sabonis and overvaluing CJ

Yeah, think both the non-Portland teams are out. Nurk for Plumlee and the first is more reasonable than Hayward, and Sabonis for CJ isn't good for Indy (and I'm lower on Sabonis than most I think).

Sounds like there's a consensus on this one. I apologize to Indy fans for insulting them in 2 consecutive threads

Question for Hornets fans: ignoring value for a second, how do you feel about dealing Hayward to free cap space for Bridges? Are you content keeping the 2 intact for the next couple seasons?

GeorgeMarcus, never apologize for being off in a trade. Dozens of people are viewing this for enjoyment/thinking/learning.

Just because it [The trade] is off doesn't mean other people aren't benefiting from you posting.

I’ll echo we’re all off sometimes, and the group consensus isn’t always correct either. But appreciate you handling it gracefully.

No offense taken. In fact, I think you’ve earned some respect with your willingness to listen and adjust.

For Charlotte, they have $40m in tax space this offseason, with 13 players signed for next year. They could even waive Plumlee to save another almost $5m, too. I don’t think they need to clear space to keep Bridges at all.

Not a Hornets fan, but from the looks of it they should be able to pay Bridges even the max and stay under the tax next season. They can always dump Oubre or Washington to save some money. They likely need to reallocate some money towards a center upgrade.

Thanks Colbinii, that's a good perspective to have. I rescind my apology :)

This is pretty good for GH and maybe a bit too good for cj

Portland just sucks all the value out of this. Indy gets destroyed, Charlotte doesn't do it either, but it's not off the wall insane

I don't see how this makes sense for Indy, and for Portland as much as I like Sabas, I like the Hayward potion the opposite amount.

I don't know if the value is THAT far off, but the fit of the deal is. If Indy trades Baby Sabas, they are tearing this sucker down.. adding a 30 yr old SG who makes 30m/year doesn't make much sense.

Yeah. CJ makes $30.8 million with raises and he's 30 year old Sabonis is still getting better and makes $19 million on a 3 yr contract. I don't see Indiana taking on some other teams $30 plus million contract and give up Sabonis. On top of all that CJ is out injured.

I have a hard time seeing Portland trading two firsts at this juncture. I'd like to upgrade from Nurkic to Sabonis but paying another first for a spurious upgrade in Hayward over CJ makes this too rich and risky for the Blazers
