Likewise. I had been wearing the flimsier medical ones until today.

My sister lives in the Boston area and told me today that she tested positive and has been sick. She is on the upswing, fortunately.

Best wishes to your sister and glad to hear she's on the upswing.

Yikes. Preliminary studies suggest that only the mRNA (Pfizer and Moderna) give good protection against Omicron infection. Fortunately, studies suggest that those vaccines do give protection against severity of the disease.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/19/health/omicron-vaccines-efficacy.html

This seems to be due to the distinction between antibodies and T-cells, a biological point about which I know next to nothing. This article from last February, however, anticipated the eventuality, and seems pretty readable.

I never not wore an N95.
Cloth masks are next to worthless.

Fencer - Plasma cell humoral antibody response, helper T cells, killer T cells, memory B cells with an enhanced & adaptable humoral antibody response, & memory T cells have ALWAYS been in play. The immune response is quite complex. Once we have vaccinations which ESPECIALLY turn on T cells (which has NOT as yet happened), we will be in a better place.

https://apple.news/Azi6a6ER3RvSus0W6R6ih9Q VERY VERY BAD NEWS.

GET **** BOOSTED IF YOU ARE DOUBLE VAXXED.
GET **** VACCINATED IF YOU ARE AMONGST THE DESPICABLE & IRRESPONSIBLE MORONS STILL UNVACCINATED.

MASK UP INDOORS & DISTANCE.

A **** STORM IS ABOUT TO EXPLODE.

Memory helper T-cells or memory cytotoxic T-cells? Or does it not really matter as long as the vaccine is stimulating T-cell specificity and not just B-cells?

1. Memory helper T-cells or memory cytotoxic/killer T cells?

2. Or does it not really matter as long as the vaccine is stimulating T cells PREFERENTIALLY, and not just B-cells & T cells in typical proportions?

Ed,

All intertwined.
Complex.
Google a schematic of the entire immune response if u want to see how complicated.

1. Both.
2. Yes.

Thanks. I teach senior Biology (I guess our equivalent of AP) so I have a decent understanding of the immune system overall, just haven't read anything about the specifics of the immune response to the various COVID vaccine types in terms of the B-Cell/T-Cell differences. You usually just hear about IgG and IgA levels etc so I guess I had only really though about it in terms of B-Cells and antibodies.

What is necessary for a vaccine to stimulate the cell mediated response preferentially over the humoral response then?

As an endocrinologist, somewhat out of my lane.

A significant threat to public health or however the state interprets that vague language. Doesn't have to be covid related.

Sorry, going to a chain restaurant is not a human right. And anyone who makes even the the smallest equivalence to the Holocaust can get ****.

Actually, just as a stopped (analog) clock is right twice a day, occasionally the idiots make a correct point.

In this case: It is distressingly common for laws that protect against real dangers to be overbroad and hence potentially misused.

But yeah, the claims of intent are crazy, and the Holocaust analogies are crazy as well.

I sure hope we get a sincere apology from the CDC & FDA. The reckless use of the PCR test caused unimaginable damage to the entire world. These tests were never meant for covid...

"Dehumanization is a technique that’s used to incite genocide. It alienates one from human rights. It likens people to animals and destroys empathy. It labels. It classifies. It marginalizes. So forgive me Joe if I tend to balk at your classification of “the unvaccinated.”

Once again a disingenuous interpretation of what happened. They were arrested but they are planned protests with a camera along for the ride intending to get arrested for breaking the law. It's a good form of protest, the method goes back to the civil rights movement though they waited for the press because not everyone was carrying a camera. I don't really have any sympathy for the cause in this case, no one is making them get vaccinated if they don't want to, restaurants however have been a real source of covid spread due to the amount of time people spend in an enclosed area together so it's a public health issue and there is a ton of precedent there. Presenting it as if some random people enjoying a meal are getting arrested for not showing their card is what makes it disingenuous, it's major spin. Every time some dbag refers to public health mandates as having something to do with concentration camps Tucker Carlson gets his wings apparently.
