OT: 76ers Minority Owner Purchases Cleveland Guardians

Post#1 » by LivingLegend » Mon Dec 20, 2021 9:09 pm

Welp. Tell me something good Philly fans. Apparently the minority owner of the 76ers David Blitzer just purchased 35% of the Cleveland Guardians (Indians) from the Dolans. There are also plans on him eventually taking over as the majority owner when Paul Dolan sells the rest of his shares in a few years.

Apparently, Blitzer also owns partial share of the NJ Devils so he is really cornering the market here by being part-owner of 3 different sports teams.

Does anybody have any info on this guy? Cleveland fans have been begging the Dolans to sell forever now because they are the cheapest ownership group ever. It would be amazing to get a owner who is not afraid of spending and retaining good players. Im sick of losing all of our good players to NY and LA because we dont want to spend money.

No current MLB ownership group is cheaper than the Pittsburgh Pirates, Bob Nutting.

So Indians is hateful and damaging or w/e to the Indian community? But changing it around to Guardians is cool.

Horrible name.

Guardians is a horrible name, you are correct. A lot of the Indian nations actually support these team names. The Seminole tribe in FL, for instance, is a staunch supporter of the 'Seminoles' name for FSU.

If the owner wants change it that’s his right but I don’t see anything wrong with the name guardian . It’s not like it’s the redskins. Guardians is such broad term

I wouldn't be mad if a team was called the San Diego Mexicans or something like that in fact they would be my favorite team.

I think it's more to do with the fact that the Seminole tribe actually works with Florida State university in not only educating the student and local population about the tribe, but also it's history in the region. They also take part in football traditions such as a Seminole member riding on a horse to light the flame during college football games.

The Indians had that caricature of chief Wahoo going around for years. Honestly they were better off renaming the team the spiders as they were once known as that prior to being renamed the Indians because of a player that actually was Native American.

In the end, they just changed it to avoid problems as saw by the Washington(name redacted) football team. It's an age old adage of removing the native and keeping the land.

As for the 76ers minority owner, I can't say if that's a good thing. Looking at the way they turned the New Jersey Devils from a proud franchise that won 3 Stanley Cups and made numerous playoff runs from 87-2012 into a laughingstock, brace yourselves.

Cleveland Guardians sounds a whole lot better than Washington Football Team.

I've been a Cleveland Indians/Guardians fan for 30 years and I think the name change is great.

Has links to the city, addresses concerns from Native Americans and gives the franchise a chance to move on and have a fresh, exciting start.

I think you get a fantastic insight into a person by how they react the change.

This guy doesn’t appear to be very wealthy as far as owners go. If he owns other teams then that makes it even worse.

Yes it is.

Cleveland has a roller derby team that has the same name (they were first to use it). At first, they weren't happy about the MLB team selecting same name, but came to an agreement that both would use it.

I think it sounds corny.

The Dolans are not cheap, they work with what they got. Cleveland is just a bad market for this baseball team. Low fan turn out will continue to be the down fall of this team. You want the dolans to spend? **** show up to the games.
