The vast vast majority of physicians with true & appropriate expertise in Covid medicine all over the world (not just at the CDC) will tell you that what Makary is saying is untrue. He is an outlier & a frequent guest of Laura Ingraham on Fox.

1. I draw all of my conclusions about Covid medicine by reading the original source peer reviewed literature with the eyes/brain of an extremely experienced, knowledgeable, brilliant & dedicated physician. I am NOT influenced in the **** slightest by the media.
2. That said, for the record, I am NOT at all a “hair on fire” liberal with regard to many other issues - where I am well to the right of center. The exception for me in a huge way is Covid. I have devoted my life to excellence in the teaching & practice of medicine. Excellence in medicine is literally ingrained in my being. It physically hurts me to see bad or careless medicine & I have an extremely high standard for myself & the younger physicians I train.
3. And the left-leaning news media are handling Covid much more truthfully & vastly more accurately than Fox. An inconvertible fact.

How can effective communication and proper scientific education/discussion POSSIBLY occur when there's just so much floating anger and anxiety hijacking and dominating dialogue?

In addition to the medical concerns, our country's collective mental health is taking an absolute beating right now, and this thread is the embodiment of that.

All we can do is educate ourselves, others, get vaccinated, breath, and recognize when we need to check in with ourselves, and take care of our anger and anxiety. When what we know and teach is met with resistance, further persistence is more or less self harm. All we can do is offer education, and recognize when we are losing ourselves.

That's not what's happening in this thread.

If he does not obtain the booster, he will be at huge risk for Covid reinfection w Omicron - which he will easily spread to those around him. The Omicron R value is 8-9 - meaning 1 person on average will transmit it to 8-9 others.

Transmission begets replication begets mutations. I don't think you even heard what I was saying, as I'm not disagreeing with you, or challenging any of the facts. I support all of them. Believe all of them. I'm completely on the same page as you. I believe people need to be vaccinated, boosted, etc. I'm vaccinated, and will be boosted next week. The only reason I haven't yet is because of the concern of it triggering a Guillian Barre relapse, which, I do NOT want to go through again.

I recognize some lesser educated people are instigating crap in here. My point,which was my only point, is that this global pandemic is taking a toll on everyone's mental health. That requires some attention and education as well. Being mindful of mental health right now as a priority can only help, and make tolerance and communication easier for all of us, especially when met with resistance.

Let's say you are a young, healthy low risk person. So what? Get a few shots. It's free and takes about 30 seconds per shot. You can walk into any drug store and get one. If you are low risk to get seriously ill from covid, then why is the shot a higher risk? It can't hurt, and may serve to keep others from being infected.

This reluctance to get vaccinated makes no sense to me.

And for us to answer legitimate & sincere questions. It gets off track when our small group of ignorant morons spreads dangerous disinformation - which devolves into insults & bashing (because I have totally lost my patience unsuccessfully trying to educate these dumb as a rock nimrods in a polite way).

But now my wife points out they are "not for medical use", and I should use an N95 mask instead, a box of which she has also helpfully provided. Hopefully they are of similar shape.
