Re: Build Your Realistic Team - Draft started: #47 eminence
Wanted to also say: My "most wanted" list got plucked like crazy by y'all in Round 3. Lot of players I liked taken in that round. Didn't necessarily think they'd fall to me, but well, they didn't. Savvy bunch.

Re: Build Your Realistic Team - Draft started: #47 eminence
I thought Simmons would slide more, I should have known better. Damn solid value in the early fourth round.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Wanted to speak to this:
You do you. You have a vision for your team that means you covet a guy others think is a bit of a reach, consider holding off for another round if you think you can...but don't regret getting your guy.
I'll also say that when there's a guy you like who you might rank overall further down, but who is singular in how he's seen, while a ranked player list may have him lower, he's probably more likely to get plucked by others for whom he is salient as well.
I'll flat out say that if Caruso had been available for my picks, I'd have seriously considered him. Don't know if I'd have picked him at that point, but I might have.
Really appreciate that Doc.

I'm very happy with my talent level through 4 rounds, but certainly some team building holes left to fill in.

Now I have to rethink the strategy, and it proves once again how important those wing sized players are

As I mentioned, this is the point of this simulation.
Once you you're out of the first couple of rounds it can be tricky to decide whether an elite role player is more important than a lower tier creator.
Once you'll have your team filled up we can evaluate the final results.
Had it been my team there were a few players I would have never let pass at that stage, especially OG and Bridges, but let's see your plan.

Really thorn between two guys, at this point.
I will take just a few minutes to think, while preparing my child's dinner.
No way the other will be available on the next round.

I had a long list of players I was drawn toward. Lots of fun and differing pathways to take with these builds

Re: Build Your Realistic Team - Draft started: #51 His Dudeness
Ok changed my mind like 5 times going back and forth, but decided the best fit is Harrison Barnes.
Can play the 3 and the 4 and be very switchable, he'll hit the corner 3 and be a decent primary defender on the top wings, especially with Giannis and Lonzo around.
He also improved his finishing ability and his reads in the last few years.

Ok, going out for dinner hence in the next few hours I will not update the first post and title (unless I wanted to get my a$$ kicked by my wife).

Hehe, sorry about that Ryoga. Part of what I love about these projects is the way it distorts the shape/curvature of the league we're used to. There's room for 32 alphas in the NBA, in this league, just 16. That means below a certain level of quality, the alphas lose their role while the role players don't.

I'm a bit surprised this guy fell to me but I'm not complaining. I'm adding a versatile offensive player who shoots 56% from the field, 40% from 3 and also has some playmaking chops. According to EPM, RAPTOR and LEBRON he is also a positive defender.
With my 4th round pick I select John Collins

I hate you guys. John Collins > Harrison Barnes were my 2 targets. I need some time to make up my mind.

With the 54th pick, the Rethymno Cretan Kings select Gordon Hayward.

He may not be an All-Star anymore, but he's still a very useful Point Forward. He doesn't need the ball in his hands to maximize his effectiveness. He can create his own shot. Most importantly, he can create shots for his teammates as well. He keeps everyone involved, hence he keeps everyone happy. I already got plenty of physicality at the (s)wing positions with Jaylen Brown and OG. I reckon I could have a use for Hayward's court vision and BBIQ.

SG: Brown
SF: Hayward

I'll just say that Hayward's resurgence is the kind of post-peak comeback that I just really love seeing. He probably won't ever be an all-star again, but he's absolutely adding to his basketball legacy for me.
