It’s crazy how much voter fatigue there is for him when he’s only won it once, as if Giannis, Curry, and LeBron didn’t all win b2b recently. And it’s crazy how much people are willing to just pretend that your 14 other teammates on the roster have no impact on record when we all know that’s not the case. Curry isn’t playing significantly better than he did last year yet the Warriors are miles better. LeBron isn’t really any different of a player than he was last year yet the Lakers are much worse. Too many people just seem to be entirely incapable of of taking context into account when having these discussions and it’s frustrating.

I mean, I did just say he should be the clear leader if the season ended today.

As to the teammates thing, MVP (rightly or wrongly) has always been a team award. It's also historically been a very narrative/popularity-based award, although far less-so in the last seven or eight years, with the popularization of advanced stats.

Teammates have always been baked in to the ostensible "MVP formula." Jokic's/the Nuggets season so far is just kind of pulling on that fact and exposing it a bit more than it's ever been before.

Indeed Jokic has been coasting on defense up to a certain degree for several games now, and last night's performance was a good example. Malone benched for good the whole starting unit midway the third quarter. With that kind of effort he doesn't stand a chance.

Either Curry or CP3 for me

Chris Paul proved it wasn't just lightning in a bottle. His presence really has changed the Phoenix suns and I'm nearly positive their whole team knows it.

Phoenix is too much of an ensemble to consider CP3, Booker or Aston for their record. 2014 Spurs-esque except offensively minded.

The 2014 Spurs were offensive minded as well...6th most ppg (and per 100 possessions), best 3pt % in the entire league, the offense was a thing of beauty to watch.

Demar ahead of Joker. Good stats, and player but no bueno for MVP for a below .500 team.

Right now it's neck and neck between Curry and KD IMO

A shame that Warriors game wasn’t a national tv TNT game but for us locals that got to watch it - it was a beauty to watch. Curry being the MVP and Draymond being a defensive juggernaut and a bunch of role players following the path of their leaders with belief to run through a wall. There really is something about Steph that brings belief to the table when you mix him with Draymond. Dray never gets enough credit for how absolutely unique he is and what he brings to the table. Over the past decade he’s been a top 10 impact player. Wouldn’t be the same without Steph but he’s the absolute perfect complement to Steph. The modern day version of Pippen.

That the poll here doesn't have Curry as the runaway favorite still shows this board despite seeing him play for a decade is still clueless regarding Curry.

Curry’s impact is the one thing that the national media has a better grasp on than stats nerds.

But goal posts have shifted here, Steph is now playing on a loaded roster and gets carried by his teammates on his off nights.

I get what you're saying, no one expected this team to be this good. Just like no one saw the 2015 and 2016 warriors coming but once they did, they were STACKED.

Does it though? No one in the national media had the warriors as contenders prior to the seasons start. Seems like to me, if you could accurately evaluate Curry's impact, you'd have the team penciled in as a contender.

Like myself and WarriorGM had prior to the seasons start.

You could say the National Media is very good at hindsight though.

The fact that Curry is almost neck in neck on votes with a player who isn't even on a winning team is mind boggling.

Jokic shouldn't even be ahead of Chris Paul in votes. Only 8 votes for CP3. Insane. What kind of absurdity is this? DeRozan has more votes.

I question Jokers leadership. Fighting guys and having your brothers start Twitter wars with guys in the league shows a lack of maturity. Doesn’t send the message that you care about winning above all else. Makes his stats feel a lot like KLove minny numbers.

Ah yes, the good old days when Love was leading Minnesota to the semi and conference finals in b2b seasons. True nostalgia indeed.

We literally have the data that says that if Jokic had the conditioning to play all 48 minutes on the level he's playing his 35 minutes, the Nuggets would be one of the top seeds in the league.
