Adding Turner in place of Smart will have one positive effect: the Celtics will be in the lottery.

Would anyone be shocked at this point if the Celtics got Pierce out of retirement on a 10 day contract? ISO Joe might actually be better than a couple stiffs on this squad.

Tanking would be a fantastic way for Tatum to expedite his exit out of town.

Stevens should expedite his exit out of town. Now that Tatum got the big payday, he seems disinterested in anything except his numbers and his brand.

Trading your best player when players like that do not want to come to Boston doesn't seem like the best business practice. This team was in the doldrums before the KG trade. They could easily go back to that.

Brown's #1 fan on this forum.

No, they are in the doldrums now. I want them to go back to the 24-58 team in Doc Rivers' first year. That team was more interesting and more fun to watch.
Tatum and Brown will never win a championship together, or even come close. Isn't it obvious? I'm rooting for an OKC style rebuild. Start completely over.

Its still way too early to proclaim that those 2 guys cannot win together, THey are both very young, have always had a midget shoot first Point running them and until this year they have not truly had this be their team.,
And brown missed half the games
And they have a new head coach
Team will never win as currently constructed or coached though.
But I strongly feel that the Jays can be your core and you can win with that, Confident enough to make some skill changes around them between now and deadline and then let the rest of the year ride to see how it shakes out.
If after adding the pieces by deadline does nothing, then I look to trade either brown or Tatum. Whoever nets me the best package,

As up and down as the team plays at times nothing has really changed from the Celtics plans- they plan to be all in on beal next summer. That’s been the plan. Will be the plan. The up and down play and everything sucks in the moment and in the in between before free agency but nothing has changed with their intentions. It won’t either.
Even if you don’t like beal or don’t think he’s that great of a player, he’s still an all nba caliber / perennial all star level player who we can add to the jays. Getting him allows the Celtics the flexibility to see if the jays + beal works or if it’s redundant it eases the burden of a Jaylen deal and makes him much easier to move for either another star next to beal and Tatum or a bunch of depth + picks in a different deal. Just creates flexibility.
It’s also what Tatum wants and even those who don’t like Tatum or don’t think much of him- should obviously concede that he’s the Celtics franchise player and making him happy is what will be done and getting beal goes a long way in doing so. Beals not a lock and if he doesn’t come idk what path they go but right now until that happens I’ll focus on that plan.
Ideally in my perfect world I’m going after dame in the offseason if he becomes available and then I’m recruiting TF outta beal with Tatum and lillard. Longgggggggggg shot and likely no chance it happens but there’s a path there and the Celtics really don’t have many other avenues imo.

I respect your opinion and yours is the path that has a more realistic chance of happening but I don’t agree with it. I’d like to win championships. You need top level talent- other than brown being the home grown guy there’s not really an argument for why you’d prefer that route if you look at it objectively. Dame is a much much better player now and will be for the next 2-3 years. Imo.
We all need to stop living in this illusion of a world where we have time- these scenario’s in which we just expect Tatum and brown are both here in 5 years. Jaylen has 2 more years left as a Celtic guaranteed....that’s it. After that we have no idea what he’ll do. Tatum can begin to force his way out after next season ( I don’t think he will) when he only has 2 years left on his deal as the final year is a player option.
Like we are on the clock here in a major way- beal makes Tatum happy which is why you get him even with some not liking his play style but if you have a chance to pair dame with beal (who he’s extremely close with) and Tatum (who he has a relationship with) and vault yourself into a legit top 2 title contender- they need to seize the day.
I get the defensive questions about that fit but I’d trust ime to scheme that plus we’d be able to get vets who wanna ring chase and or take less to come here to fill the blue collar/defensive roles.

IDK if I can agree on the dame>>than Brown talk.
At age 25 not a huge gap between Dame and Brown.
Dame shot more, scored more (4ppg)
Dame handled ball more got more assists (2apg)
BRown bigger and rebounded better (2rpg)
Brown better defender
Equal Shooters
And this year Dame has absolutely taken a step back. Perhaps showing signs of age. Shooting has fallen off a cliff. Defense is non existent.
Dame get paid more and wants a MASSIVE extension

Again, that’s fine but for me this is where the conversation ends when people (really just Celtics fans tbh because people out of that bubble know better) think Jaylen and dame are even on the same planet as players. Not a knock on Jaylen more of a credit to dame. You should also check dames stats after the 1st 9 games this year because he’s at the same level he always is.
Just can’t talk basketball with anyone who thinks dame and Jaylen were ever on the same plane or will be. No offense. Just different opinions and that’s fine but it’s just dishonest. Look at shot creation, defensive attention, ability to create for others, being a legitimate number 1 option, being all nba, legitimately a top 10 player, a top 5 mvp finish, It’s just not a real comparison.
Financially, yes he makes significantly more than Jaylen - now. because he’s significantly better but He won’t when Jaylen is due for a pay increase in 2 years and even then You can trade for dame and not sign the extension until after seeing how he fits how he ages etc.

I am not claiming brown is as good a DAme and has ever been or will ever be.
But oyu have to admit Jaylen isnt a scrub either. We are talking ALL NBA compared to just outside of allnba/allstar
And even though Jaylen may never be as good as Dame, if Dame regresses, then Jaylen can be as good as that regressed version of Dame. Especially when you take into account defense, age, contract.

The jump between all nba tho (5x) and barely making an all star game is huge. The gap between top 10 and top 25 is Grand Canyon esque. Dame is legit a top 10 guy. Jaylen is a really fine player. Made the all star game last year to his credit aided by an incredibly hot start to the year.
If he was a scrub you wouldn’t be able to trade him for Damian lillard but he is the necessary cost of a deal when your talking about building a super team in which case in my hypothetical I was.

Tatum and Brown will never win a championship together, or even come close. Isn't it obvious? I'm rooting for an OKC style rebuild. Start completely over.
Its still way too early to proclaim that those 2 guys cannot win together
I'm proclaiming it right now.
If someone offered them a godfather offer, they'd do something sooner, but I think they won't do anything remotely resembling a rebuild until at least 23-24, Jaylen's last season under contract. That's when decisions MUST be made.

Why put off the decision? How much bad, selfish basketball will it take? Trade them now while they have value. Brown to Orlando for Gary Harris and an unprotected first in 2023 would be a good start. That gives you a realistic shot at Victor Wembayama, especially if the Celtics begin the tank now.
