Re: Build Your Realistic Team - Draft started: #86 flaco
Heading out shortly to be with family (Happy Holidays to y'all and stay safe!), though I'd share some data I'm racking.
The league right now is being populated largely from guys from the drafts 2014 to 2018, with 2016 & 2017 leading the way with 10 players chosen so far, the other 3 years with 9 players.
All drafts are represented in the league going back to 2005, and then after a void in 2004, LeBron remains standing from 2003.
Among teams at this point, we have 6 that have 5 players represented, which would seem to bode well for their ability to scale in the playoffs in theory. Those teams are:
Boston Celtics
Cleveland Cavaliers
Miami Heat
Phoenix Suns
Toronto Raptors
Utah Jazz
And as said before, there are still 2 teams with no representatives at this point:
New York Knicks
Orlando Magic

Brandon Ingram seems a steal in the mid-50s, too.
Kinda depends on fit within the roster, I suppose [though Mike Conley can fit a lot of places]. For us spectators, I'll put in the request that people show what their roster looks like with each pick.
Could be because Conley isn't really "Conley" anymore. Injuries aside he does seem to have dropped a tier or two since he left Memphis. A couple of guys are still available for a similar reason I think.
I disagree with the bolded (or at least with the semantic severity ["tier or two"]).
Mike's improved his shooting steadily, particularly since trying to fit in with Utah's 3pt-scramble offense......he's consequently exhibiting the best outside shooting of his entire career right now: >44% from 3pt on >7 3PA/36 (and that's with barely 5 of 9 assisted, and only 1 in 6 coming from the corner).
He's really found his chemistry working the pnr with Rudy, too, either finding the big-man or getting his own with regularity, especially that right-handed short-range push shot: he's hitting a career-best 52.3% in the 3-10' range [that's almost exclusively unassisted], and the 3rd-best finishing rate at the rim of his career [albeit on VERY low volume].
Surely a lot of this is related to the system and the gravity that Rudy has on the roll, but it just shows that Mike can find a way to be effective [even at age 34] in a lot of environments.
And he's got an excellent turnover economy. He's presently delivering 13.7 ppg [on excellent shooting efficiency] and 5.4 apg with only 1.7 topg. And while he's small, that's nothing new: he's always been small, yet was ALWAYS an effective perimeter defender in Memphis. While he might not be quite as good on that end as he was five years ago, he still plays smart and with energy on defense, still has active hands, etc.
In terms of rate metrics: he's an 18.7 PER, .203 WS/48, +4.0 BPM, +17 net rating, and has the 3rd-highest on/off among the starters. This is in somewhat limited minutes (28.0 mpg), although in an era where even the super-stars are frequently playing <35 mpg.
And in his most recent playoff appearances, he was excellent [when available].
So I'll stand by my initial assessment that he's undersold in the mid-50s [nice pick Colbini].
I could back away somewhat from my statement made about Brandon Ingram, though. Doctor MJ pointed it out that lower tier first-option scorers are of less value within the context of this project than they are "in a vacuum" (or in a 30-team league).
I think that's fair. I haven't paid very close attention to him since his first year in Utah and I underestimated him a bit too much.

I'll take a guy who you love to have and hate to play against.
He is having a career year and turning a mediocre franchise into a solid franchise.

For my final starter, the team I represent selects...

Jarred Vanderbilt, one of the most underrated players in the NBA.

Just noticing how, at this point, the Milwaukee Bucks didn't get any extra pick since the second round.
True that Brook's injury didn't help (to avoid any confusion, he can't be picked), but still

Perfect fit next to Trae Young. The two of them are polar opposites. Trae's weaknesses are Thybulle's strengths and vice versa.

Don't know if he'll necessarily start but he will be paired with Trae quite a bit.

Too tempting not to take one of the most prolific 3 point shooters over the last few seasons
