At this point, it is somewhat enjoyable to see Pace and Nagy hoisted on their own petard (team) after losses. So that’s been fun to consider during games. OTOH, the time spent away from the Bears during the last Dalton game was very productive. Rather than swim in the Bears universe of hell, you can spend Sunday cleaning your car or shopping. This Sun Ill need to return 2 things at the mall, and I will see about an oil change (if dealership is open) if all goes well and I get off the couch. I still want to see if Jenkins improves, but not sure if it is worth the opportunity cost.

because...the bears are now technically out of the playoffs?

if the bears brought fields back before he was 100% because they thought they could still make the playoffs, it's yet another check in the ineptitude column

OTOH, Ifedi playing over Borum is another Nagy headscratcher. It must be that Nagy is a doodyhead.

I can't think of any reason to start Foles ahead of Fields or Dalton unless the other 2 are not 100%. It's also possible that if Foles is starting, they think Ifedi will be able to provide him with more protection, which, not being as mobile or as young as Fields, he needs.

In my calculus, Foles’ life and Bears loss prevention is last on the list of priorities. Not so sure about Ifedi providing notable pass protection either

I think Fields not playing is smart because I believe he tweaked his ankle against Minnesota. I rather him not playing if he is not 100%. Borom not starting is pure BS from Nagy.

Might as well start foles for the remainder of the season. If he plays half decently, he might get some trade value.

It could be Foles that's making that call. He might have told Nagy he's had more experience playing with Ifredi and would feel more comfortable with him out there.

What Foles could possibly ever want should matter only to his wife. Nagy can coach this team with players that will not be here after the season all he wants. While it would be in sync with Nagy’s own future status, it is certainly not in sync with the best interests of the Bears going forward. Borum and Jenkins should get every single rep available this season at this stage. It may or may not be pretty, but who cares.

holy crap. just noticed that foles has the 21st highest QB cap hit in the league next season. i thought his contract was up after this year. not only is that not true, but it was backloaded to the 3rd season. pace with another of his patented time release stink bombs

It may be hard for some people to believe, but Nagy is still coaching to win games, and to have the team perform as well as it can. Which I believe is the right call.

kind of a waste of time for whoever compiled that data when it can mostly be summed up by the timing of his 3 good games:

start #3 vs lions 74.4 QBR
start #6 vs niners 65.1 QBR
start #7 at steelers 53.6 QBR

starts 6 and 7 happen to fall into the latter half of the schedule. if he starts the last 2 games of the season, start #6 will shift into the front half of his starts and the early vs late starts comparison might look a lot different

the best thing we can say at this point is that it looked like he was starting to put things together against the mediocre niners and steelers before getting injured in his 8th start

Nagy goes for it in 4th and goal. Bold. Stupid, but bold.
