Wiggins or RJ Barrett?

Post#1 » by PlatinumState » Sat Dec 25, 2021 10:16 pm

Not taking into account their salaries, for the sake of everything lets imagine they make the same
RJ is 5 years younger and we dont know his ceiling. Wiggins has improved, but imo this is his ceiling

Depends on the team's situation. If I'm trying to win now, it's going to be Wiggins. Barrett if I'm a younger rebuilding team. Barrett's offensive inconsistencies would worry me if I was a team trying to make a championship run.

One is playing with Curry as the PG and the other has had Elfrid Payton, Ntilikina, Dennis Smith Jr., Kemba
2 haft season of Derrick Rose the last 3 yrs. One has a unfair advantage.

Wiggins.

RJ is closer to being a bust than he is to being a serviceable player at Wiggins level.

Wiggins is in his 7th season and finding a nice niche in the Harrison Barnes role in Golden State - a fringe #3 on a contending team who’s become a very good 3 and D guys.

Barrett is only in his 3rd year, and is still a work in progress. Last year he looked like an all-star. This year he looks like a fringe starter.

I feel Tibbs is stunting his development. The guy is skilled, has the right attitude and wants to work.
I bet he'd flourish under a different system or coach.

Tough choice
Wiggins has no motor
Barrett isn't as talented as advertised
Slight edge to Wiggins assuming he is in the right system

Wiggins is averaging 18.7 pts / 49.1% FG / 42.2% 3pts / 59.4% TS.
Barret is averaging 15.1 pts / 40.2% FG / 35.3% 3pts / 51.0% TS.

Don't think it's a fair comparison.

Wiggins was only serviceable when placed next to Curry. Switch their roles and he'd be trash on the Knicks while Barret would explode.

Wiggins is finally home.
Legit 3rd option when Klay returns. And much better defender than RJ. He seems that he figured it out.

Edit. RJ will become pretty good. I just don't know if the Knicks have the patience for this.

Neither guy is someone to build around. Wiggins is just unreliable. Better this year, but not a guy you can count on.

Barrett is just the prototype #3 pick in a 2 player draft.

One is a 26 yr old in his 8th season and the other one is a 21 yr old in his 3rd season, no it not a fair comparison

I’d argue that draft was deeper than 2 players.m just maybe wasn’t as obvious at the time with the Garland injury and the typical hiding of overall player versatility Kentucky does.. but Garland and Herro look worthy of being included as prizes in that draft

This is wrong. He’s improved a ton since his rookie year. He has his issues with consistency, but he’s definitely gotten better.

I’m just talking about what was obvious at the time.

The 2002 draft was a 2 player draft with Yao and Jay Williams, with a big drop off in perceived talent after those 2. Sure, there was Amare there later at #9, but it wasn’t obvious at the time. If it was obvious, he would’ve been a top 3 pick.

If you remove salary that’s a big advantage in wiggins favour considering his salary is a lot more and he does have more experience in the league as well .

People forget that 2 years ago Wiggins have the worst contract in the league. Now that they're winning, all the narratives have changed.
