Bol

Post#1 » by blahblah312 » Mon Dec 27, 2021 7:19 pm

I always wondered if during the Gordon trade, the Nuggets tried to add Bol to the package. Hes value was at its peak. Magic had traded its C to bulls and clark with Gordon, so they had a need for a C/PF. National media was talking about if he just had minutes you would see the hype was real.

I have heard that Bol was offered as part of the Gordon trade. Orlando smartly wanted Hampton over any other asset Denver had available. At the moment, Bol is out on Covid protocol and not available.

Keep Bolbol when the trade value is nothing. This is just an Uber Deep NBA frontcourt I really believe Bolbol and Cancar are both legit NBA players.

I think Bolbol is on the super long development path to being the perfect backup C for Jokic. Whenever Bolbol is in the game he’s forced to be focal point. Two unique point Center rotation. Still playing together potential.

Way too much potential still there to give up for little or nothing. You’ve almost hid him into another really small contract for 2 or 3 years by not playing him another half a season.

Still way too

Bol Bol is exactly the opposite from Jokic, he's not a point center by any means, when he's the focal point he's looking to score and that's about it, ball hog/black hole on the offense and utterly clueless on defense. If he weren't 7'2 he'd be just an another pg/sg chucker.

He has been on the protocol since Heat game. Most players are getting off after 10 days. NBa cant publicly say due to privacy but either he had the virus or Malone really does not want to see him at practice.

I don't think it works that way (the protocol). I think the NBA is running the show and the fact that he has been out so long suggests he is showing symptoms but we will see in time.

I heard that not only was Bol offered to the Magic, but that he was shopped to several teams trying to get someone/something that the Magic would accept instead of Hampton. I also heard that they floated the rumor about Barnes just before the trade deadline to try to get the Magic to accept Bol.

Nice game from Bol. If he can keep playing like this, maybe he won't get waived. He definitely needs to develop a jump hook instead of relying on that turnaround like Hastings said.

Don't see the foot issue as a "bad habit", closer to "bad physiology", perhaps "bad genes"

The bad habits are his play.
The injuries the family genes. Some get lucky by getting the good genes of parents and some unlucky get every bad gene from both parents. Bol unfortunately picked up Manute's feet issues

You lost me there. I have seen both play and they are nothing alike except in similar height. Manute was the best shot blocker the league had seen since Russell, while Bol Bol is trying to play on the perimeter. Bol Bol is an offense player first, while Manute was a defensive force under the basket. They would have thrown a party in D.C. if Manute could hit an outside shot while shooting is Bol Bol's strength.

They look nothing alike to me.

back to the basket move and release point on mid range shots. Manute barely took 3's so not sure if he would be stepping out of bounds as much as Bol.

Again, I am not seeing it and I saw Manute play many times. If anything, I wish Bol had some of Manute's inside play. Manute played for years and for different teams because his shot blocking skills were in demand. He only left the league after a knee injury followed by a devastating car accident. Manute had virtually no offensive game except by put-backs and dunks. He could very occasionally hit a 3 point shot and I can still vividly remember the response of wonderment from the Golden State broadcasters.

Bol Bol is a completely different player with a very good outside game. Open, he can bury a 3 point shot that would surprise nobody. Combine Bol Bol's game with Manute's and you would have something special.

If you saw him live then should notice the similarities. Most video only concentrate on shot blocking and put backs but that was not his whole game. In college he was used to fuller extent. The nba turned him into mostly defense. Yes Manute is known for shot blocking and Bol (probably told or learned that he should be offense centered) stays away from the paint. Manute was more than two items. In pregame you saw more of what he could do but never allowed to on court.

Nets 2nd will be around #55 so this is almost a zero-value deal. But I'm actually happy about this trade, not like a Denver fan but as a basketball fan in general. Everyone deserves a chance, Bol Bol too. I didn't complain when we sold "for nothing" for example Jarred Vanderbilt because I know that Malone would never give him the chance, so I'm happy for him to become as defensive specialist the starter this season in some other team.

Next time FO should move way faster once it was obvious Malone will not take seriously some player. Bol Bol's value during Orlando-bubble was close to lottery pick or proven veteran. Instead, we get almost nothing and Bol wasted 20 months of his life for nothing.

That's wishful thinking, his value was nowhere near that or he would've been traded for a "proven veteran" long time ago.

That's wishful thinking, his value was nowhere near that or he would've been traded for a "proven veteran" long time ago.

All 7 games that season he played was from a bubble after Millsap injury where everyone sees that he is actually healthy and despite very limited minutes from Malone his per-36 stats was close to 20-10-3 with about 45% from 3pt. There are big "next Porzingins" expectations from him around the league and he was put as TOP10 by bookmakers for next season ROY award (bubble was not officially counted) and with Grant didn't resign and Millsap looking washed people expected to see him as a new forward starter (with MPJ) or at least backup with 25+ mpg. But Malone has zero plans with him, so between the 2020 draft and the start of the 2020-21 season he should be traded. His value at the time was what I said.

Do you remember the Beasley case who finished the 2018-19 season with almost 50-40-90 perfect percentages, there are big expectations from him, but Malone of course gives an advantage to his favorite Barton and killed fastly trade value of Beasley during 1st half of the upcoming season on his contract year. It is legit if the coach has his own plans, but FO should not wait for that player with rising expectations around the league losing it all. There is a Juancho example after the FIBA world cup where he was part of Spain BIG3 who won the tournament, Malone didn't use him when next season started so we traded him for nothing. Mudiay was #7 pick which finished the rookie season with promising numbers, in his case Malone correctly gives an advantage to better and more talented Murray so he should be traded during his sophomore season, or the very next postseason when his trade value was still decent, not waiting to disappear. Faried and Nurkic are maybe the most extreme cases where we are from at some point notable players making them as a negative value and losing 1st round pick to get rid of them.

There is a long history of miscommunications between Malone's long-term plans with young players and FO's too-late decisions to try to fix it.
