If anyone even wants the ones we want to trade. But we know the NBA, everyone wants to wait until the trade deadline or fairly close to it before they start really making moves.

This is exactly why he got fired in Cleveland. He wouldn't play their young players even when they were rebuilding.

Lue was just another typical mediocre hire after all. We were all fooled for a season because he had Atkinson on the staff, but now we're seeing the real Lue.

Yup. Young guys providing energy and hustle. Playing loose. Defense. Deflections. Blocks. Steals. Offense is iffy but they’re fearless.

I don't know if embarrassing would be the choice of word here. There's nothing embarrassing about losing this game unless your expectation of this team without most of its top impact players is much higher than it should be.

In terms of just chucking all the young guys out whenever things start looking bad, it depends. Every team is going to get down and even down a decent amount. Continuing to work and learn together how to play when you are in those positions is important. If young non lottery guys are getting 10-15+ mpg on a non trash team they are lucky or a really young player.

Also, unless you are a team full of all young players that's just doing development, you actually want your young guys to get minutes with experienced players and learn better how to play the right way, be in position, take good shots, etc.

Lue got fired after 6 games, if Cleveland's ownership decided that 6 games was sufficient to determine whether a coach will play young guys or not, they are idiots unless he specifically said he would never play young guys more minutes 6 games into the season. I doubt any coach would say that though.

Yeah, one team at least still has a superstar while the Clippers team without PG and the other players out is just role players. Just seem like some people want to complain just for the sake of complaining.

Desperate For An Ejection

Let's face it: we're never going to see any ejections in a Clipper game. Keep in mind, since Tyronn Lue became coach, no Clipper personnel has ever been ejected from a regular season game. The only ejection came from a playoff game, Game 6 in Western Conference Finals, Patrick Beverley for shoving Chris Paul. After their defeat to the Suns, Beverley was traded. Them's the breaks when Clippers are en route to becoming the new Spurs.

I get it, complaining can be fun, but the Nets are a much better team than this Clippers team.

This Clippers team has 6/9 players in the primary rotation tonight as 25 or younger. Coffey, Johnson and Boston just played 17+ minutes each, two of them 25+. It's generally lottery teams that would have multiple young guys of their caliber playing that much in a game. Yea, not embarrassed at all.

The young guys showed heart.

It’s not about having unrealistic expectations. We all knew it was going to be tough without Leonard. Now without PG for at least a month. Throw in health/safety protocols and injuries and it’s been a hot mess. But guess what? Other teams have it worse than us and they’re still playing competitive basketball.

Lue is still coaching the team as if the playoffs are a given and health will be in tact when it’s go time. Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think it’s a realistic expectation.

*eta*

It’s not complaining just to complain because some of us want something different. Some of y’all think stay the course, continue to let the vets have chances to get it together. That’s fine. Sone of us would like to see something different.

what teams have it worse than the Clippers? Their 2 best players out for perhaps the season, Jackson out, Batum out, Hartenstein out.

Hawks, Boston, Nets, Cavs, Kings, Blazers to name a few have/had so many players out they were playing 8-10 g-league players. Some of those teams are lucky that players are coming back now. Harden a few nights ago. Young last night, etc…

Clippers have it tough. No question. I’m saying so do other teams and they’re finding ways to still play competitive basketball. Playing with heart. Coaches (some assistants) are using all hands on deck and doing whatever it takes to try and win.

I wish Lue was more like that but others are happy with his stay the course and all will be right method. That’s fine. My disagreeing isn’t complaining or having unrealistic expectations. The writing is on the wall for me. This team is not only not a contender but headed out of playoff contention.

Is wanting to see guys on the court playing with fire and leaving it all out there expecting too much?

*eta*

The Nets say Durant, Aldridge, and Irving (won’t play) have cleared protocols. Maybe we should forfeit that game and others because it’s not fair.

Keon, Boston, and maybe Coffey definitely need to be in the rotation from here on out especially if injuries still linger but its a sticky situation when you have Reggie, Kennard, Bledsoe, Mann, Batum, etc. in front of them. Our saving grace is that 75% of the west is garbage this year which means if we can hover around .500 we might can maintain the 5th or 6th seed until PG and Kawhi(?) comes back. Not something to be proud of but it is what it is at this point. Two max guys in street clothes and aging vets in front of the rooks is a tricky predicament and we'll have to see how Lue plays this thing out. Hopefully for the best.

The Grizzlies just went 10-2 without Ja Morant. We've been a mediocre team hovering around .500 with Paul George.

I think it's safe to say that blaming everything on players being out is a copout. Everybody's dealing with it and some teams are dealing with it better than others. The front office really screwed up by bringing in Bledsoe and Winslow (just imagine how much better this team would be with productive players in those roster spots) and Lue has done a poor coaching job this year. Our biggest problem has been the long stretches of games where we just look utterly hopeless on offense, and that has been a consistent issue no matter who's playing or who our opponent is on any given night.

I had issue with you saying it was embarassing. Losing by 20 points with the team the Clippers had put there against a Nets team with Harden, shooters and finishers is not embarassing.

It would be embarassing if they showed no fight and lost by 40 points. The Clippers showed fight, they were simply out-talented most of the game.

Like I said, you want to get young guys minutes with experienced players whenever possible. This isn't the G-League Hinkie Sixers team. The Clippers goal is to have these young guys learning to play proper basketball and play roles as well as they can in preparation for next season when they will more likely than not be 9th or 10th men.

Boston and Coffey played around 10 minutes each in the first half, Johnson played 3. They were down 16 at half, they got beat 30-26 in the 3rd, so really not bad, but they just couldn't close the gap. Lue then played only bench players / young guys in the 4th.

So he gave the team a chance in the 3rd to work on playing from behind and trying to close a lead, then in the 4th he played the young guys.

My problem is complaining half way through the 3rd quarter that the coach hasn't thrown in the towel, doesn't make much sense.

The West is struggling, there are only 4 teams above 500, the NBA has the play in, the Clippers can't just tank, they can still push to keep themselves out of the bottom 5.

Odd comparison to the Grizzlies since Brooks and Banes played 11 of those 12 games, those are their 2nd and 3rd leading scorers. Then JJJ, their 4th scorer at 16 ppg was also in the lineup. They weren't decimated, they had one guy out, Clippers have had that the whole season. Morant being out for the Grizzlies is directly comparable to the Clippers whole season with Kawhi out. I'd buy this argument if they had Morant, Brooks and/or Banes all out and went 10-2.

Bledsoe who has struggled scoring is a leading scorer recently , and Boston who shot 36/30 in college has played 21 mpg over the last 10 games taking 9 FGA and shooting 36/30 and we're out here talking about not playing young guys? Come on!

The last time Marcus Morris was a first option on a team (and they had Julius Randle too), they were 14-29 in the games he played, and he's currently the best scorer active on the roster (and was out the previous 4 games) and you guys think there's some magic to coaching that can overcome lack of talent on offense?

Last 3 games:
Coffey: 24.5 mpg
Boston: 27.7 mpg
Johnson: 14.3 mpg

Interpretation: Coach is not playing the young guys, just like his 6 games at the start of the season in Cleveland obviously proved!

Get outta here with that stuff.

The team has had stretches looking hopeless on offense because the offensive talent has been weak.

Memphis definitely needs JA but the ball was moving around a little better with him out with injury plus they had a lot of easy games during that winning stretch. Also it brings into question can a team truly win with a scoring point guard as the main focus of the team ala Portland Trailblazers.

-also as far as we're concerned, when you really think about it, us playing rookies or "we need to play the rooks" is damn near a totally new concept for us. We haven't had a situation like this since probably rookie Blake and DJ when he was in his second year and also the Maggette, Miles, Richardson, Odom era. Of course Blake was a no brainer but we've had nothing but older vet teams in the past especially under Doc. Washed up Paul Pierce, Tukalou, Danny Granger, Grant Hill, Raymond Felton, etc. along with the older role players.. a youth movement was foreign and never entered our vocabulary for years. Of course you know I'm all in on playing the youth with our vets but we just have to see how they progress and how Lue incorporates them into the rotation to make it a success.

Boston isn't really ready for 28 MPG even for developmental purposes, and Johnson is probably maxing out at this point at 15 MPG. At the very least we need to stagger their minutes against many teams. If that's their minutes for the next month, that's absolutely fine for them. If they get better over that period, then of course they can/should play more.

I mean they could play more right now, but how much developing are you really doing playing in a raw lineup that's regularly down 20 by halftime?

Coffey is an interesting situation, I think he's a really high floor but low ceiling guy. Like if he goes +20 in a game it will never be because of him, but if he goes -20 it won't be because of him either.

Also, there's a big difference between our lottery or even 1st round youth of yesteryear, and the youth we have now. I really like our guys, but even Keon Johnson is very much a developmental prospect. I'm okay with picking the higher risk/higher upside guys, but things would likely be much different right now if we had drafted say Bones Hyland instead.

I’m not talking just about losses here. We’re about to pile up an obscene amount of them in January. My mistake for not clarifying. I’m talking effort, urgency, doing whatever it takes. I’m not seeing that from the coach and a good chunk of players. We’ll just have to agree to disagree on that.

As for the young players needing to learn to play the right way? They showed that all 4th quarter long. Ball movement, attacking, and communicating. Sure some slip ups but I think it was Brian Sieman who said the young guys were playing the right way. They showed more of that then some of the seasoned vets. They’re fearless and we could use some of that. Instead they’ll be reined in because of reasons.

Lue isn’t pushing the right buttons, too afraid to hurt feelings, or isn’t the coach on the fly people say he is.

They need a players only meeting or something. The head in the sand and hope for the best is not a good one imo.

Return to Los Angeles Clippers
