I’m quite sure all the superstars can lead a bad team to a .500 record and have great stats. It’s something else to lead a good team to a great record. The low seed/big stats guy only has a chance to win it if the best teams in the league don’t have a clear MVP on their team.

At what point does Demar Derozan warrant being put alongside the 4 main contenders? Feels like it should be a 5 man discussion now…

Zach should be in there too. They damn near have identical stats.
26.4 pts / 50% fg / 40% 3p / 5.2 reb / 4.4 ast
27 pts / 50.6 % fg / 36.5% 3p / 5.1 reb / 4.4 ast
Literal co-mvp
They won't win because of KD/Curry, but should definitely be in the discussion
Damn I love Hip Hop!

Yeah agreed - it will probably end up counting against them but they should definitely be in the conversation right now.

They have thousands of minutes of on/off data over the years my man. There is no secret to either of their impact. And there is no secret to who runs the ship.
The Warriors next 4 games are Nuggets (2x), Miami and Utah. If they come out 2-2 without any wings and Draymond, I would be thrilled. The Warriors are a mess right now. This could be a 1-3 (0-4? Yikes. Possible) and a chance for the others to catch ground though. We shall see. Curry looks healthy. We may be in for a show.
Have you seen the Nuggets recently no way the Warriors lose

Re: 2021-22 NBA MVP Discussion (Pt. 1)
I actually think Gobert and the Jazz are the guys being overlooked here. I think I could make the best case for him over any other player to round out the top 5 in MVP voting if it were taken today. They have a top 3 record (ahead of all East teams currently and #2 in SRS behind GS), he's averaging 15/15 + a steal and 2+ blocks on 72%(!) FG as a DPOY candidate. Advanced wise he's top 5 in RAPTOR and VORP while leading the NBA in WinShares, TS% and Rebound%.
I understand that he's not the sexy choice and people have hangups of his D in certain playoff series (most of which are massively overblown as well as irrelevant here), but he deserves to be on the top 5 ballot as is imo. At the very least his name should be mentioned in the discussion.

The Lakers are in the 7th spot and LeBron is playing well, does he get consideration? Steph came in 3rd from the 8 spot last year.

The Lakers were the favorite to come out of the West and are 2 games below .500. Lebron is not top 5 in any advanced metrics (Curry was... he was playing at a clearly higher level than Lebron is, and nothing was expected from those Warriors that he had playing well over .500 ball). 'Bron is in plenty of discussions with these Lakers, but none of them are related to MVP.

Channeling a lot of Steph envy today aren't we?
Don't worry about LeBron the league has made sure with its playin change that his geriatric team has the best chance to conserve energy and fumble around in the regular season and still make the playoffs.

I am OCD on consistency in all ways of life, lol.
Wait, first, if you thought the Harden topic was about Steph, you should have something about being a huge GSW fan in your screen name....
(check)
But im a Bron stan and since steph opened the door for players on teams in the bottom to win MVP, and hes playing pretty damn well, i think he should be considered.

I dont mind Jokic not winning MVP even as is think he is carrying the hardest as MVP candidates need to have a good record so we can eliminate stat padders like WB that are detrimental to their teams. But the hypocrisy is something else.
I don't remember Curry getting much MVP consideration until late in the season. And even then it was a pretty clear third option behind Jokic/Embiid. Curry moved up late in the year due to a strong finishing run combined with many other top players missing big chunks of games taking them out of the MVP race. Perhaps there was some Giannis fatigue as well as he was the only other guy with the quality and availability to be considered above Curry.
Jokic is at worst 4th in MVP consideration this year and probably closer to #1 then Curry ever got to last year.

You are correct sir.
Thats the irritating part. Before last year, I would have been even more on his side this year. Tradition has been either you have a ridiculous season on MORE THAN ONE ACCOUNT or youre the best player on one the best teams. Last year, he didnt do either but got first place votes.
I think Jokic is getting a raw deal.

LA have 6-7 record without him and 11-11 with him.

It will get better. Im not one of those people thats going to intentionally ignore how hurt they have been. I get it for people that hate the lakers but i find it silly af. We all know they have been decimated. I still expect the record to improve though.

Denver was the #2, #3 and #3 seed over the last 3 years, so it's pretty obvious Jokic can lead a good team to a great record, and that they don't have a great record yet this year only because of injuries.

Pains me to say it, but Jokic still my number one pick currently for MVP.
