Wagner is legit, don't know if he will be a star or a high end role player at this point.

Might be because he's European
Might be because he's White
Might be because he's in Orlando
but he reminds me of Hedo Turkoglu...

stars should always be stars
4pts/8reb/2assist - stunningly awesome especially in march when it counts
He just scored 38 on Jrue and Giannis. Who cares what he did against some no-name Bruins a year ago

nobody should care. i'm just saying why it's hard for me to grasp....get it?. frigging anyone and his grandma can score points in the nba in today's game and if you don't believe just have a looksee around. stars do it night in and night out. averaging 15ppg on the worst team in the nba means WHAT exactly
what're you going to say when he does jack? he plays on orl - that's the second worst team in the nba. somebody has to score,,,they're averaging 101ppg after all. he's a below average 3pt shooter with over half his points from 3
is this all it takes to get a "future star" thread

Re: I see a potential star in Franz Wagner
I've watched most of his games this season and the thing that stands out is his fire and desire to make winning type plays. The team is a mess but you can sense he wants to win badly. Judging from his skill set (good footwork, can handle the ball, penetrate, shoot from the outside, and create plays), size, quickness, long stride, excellent feel for the game (the intangibles, awareness, already an elite cutter, etc.), agressiveness, confidence, good defender, and desire to win and be good, I just don't see how he is not a star at some point.
Another thing that has not been mentioned in here is that he has potential for a good post game, the Magic have given him the ball in the post and he has made good plays. He just understand how to exploit his size against smaller perimeter players, that is going to continue to improve.

Re: I see a potential star in Franz Wagner
Probably come off as a hater but whatever.
Probably the least impressive 30 point game I've seen this season TBH. I was watching the game and I was surprised when the announcer said he had 30. Kid has the green light on a REALLY bad Magic team, really reminds me of MCW on that Philly team.
Don't get me wrong, I think he can have a Hedo/Hayward type impact in the perfect scenerio, but at the same time I could see him topping out as a high end role player. I just think he's so close to a finished product. Hard to really evaluate any player on the Magic, just because they're so bad this year.

Lmao.... mcw on that Philly team.. some unbelievable takes on here sometimes.
How anyone can watch that 38 point game and say it was the least impressive 30 point game is beyond me. The moves and finish he was making on the those drives were pretty damn impressive for a 20 year old rookie. Practically no one projected him to be that advance at finishing not to mention his nack for finding the open man( he had an incredible skip pass out of a trap to a wide open man). And this was on a solid defensive in the bucks.
Let's not even get started on his defense which is just as good or better then any rookie out side of Mobley. He literally guards 1-4 and usually takes the toughest guard assignment nightly.
I get it no one watches the magic and usually just see highlights but if you see the full games this kid fully passes the eye test and looks posised o be a great player. How great in the end I'm not sure, no one is sure but he truly has skill and is really good already as a rookie.
GO MAGIC

I thought Wagner looked good in game against GS. I still like Kuminga better for the future, but Wagner is off to the faster start.

He has a lot of similarities to Detlef. They're both from Germany, both 8th picks, and both the same body types. I hope Franz ends up shooting and passing as well as Detlef. I think Franz has more speed and mobility. Detlef had more strength.PhilBlackson wrote:Detlef Shrempf.
Shrempf was a winner. I think he was part of three 60 win teams.

Least impressive or easy ? I dont know what impresses you, maybe unsustainable shooting or flashy dunks ? Wagner scored most of his points going to the rim against elite defensive team, he also mixed in pull up and step back 3s.
Why is he close to being finished product ? He is 20, not really muscular yet and quickly learning new things.
Comparison to MCW is very weird. MCW is great defender, what holds him down is his atrocious shooting. Wagner is good 3 pt and ft shooter already.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

That's not at all why I've created the thread. When I watch him play, I see a star for the following reasons: he is more fluid than I have anticipated, he is a better ball handler, and he is a better playmaker as well. League average three point shooting is at 34.8% btw, so he is way above average, actually.

MCW should never, ever, EVER be brought up as an example for any rookie. Period.
MCW was a HORRIBLE shooter/scorer.
To remind you just how bad MCW actually was as a rookie he had a .405 FG%/.265 3P%/.703 FT% split.
Someone used MCW to warn about jumping to conclusions on Scottie Barnes earlier in the season.
While waiting for a larger sample size is more than fine, comparing pretty much every rookie to one of the worst shooting rookies is a very bad example.
Don't fall into the same trap.
Do not use MCW as your example, Wagner is a MUUUUUUCH better shooter/scorer than MCW, that's how bad MCW actually was.

ofcourse ur a hater, because it's not scottie barnes doing euro steps and **** all over the NBA champs. stop dick riding, just because he's not launching up 3's all game, i don't see how anyone can say that wasn't impressive for a rookie. i swear raptors fans are the worst. the kid will most likely win rookie of the month, and yet here they are, finding ways to make their pick seem better then it is.

Meh, the putback was pretty af though. But Wagner just played 31 mins in a blowout, so Kuminga comes in and plays 12 mins with fresh legs against a weak bench. But it's great that Kuminga is starting to get mins and show what he can do.
Its not Franz Wagner guys its his slow footed brother Moritz Wagner. Kuminga scored few buckets against our third stringers.
I think Franz has every tool to be great. Hayward is not that close. He is much smaller, worse passer as a rookie, worse defender. It will come down to development becouse Gordon improved a lot.
I see more Turkoglu or Gallinari with better passing.
Well Hayward barely played as a rookie because we were still at the end of an era where rookies didn't get to see the floor that often unless they were truly incredible. I think Franz has a lot of promise but the main reason he's gotten to show it is because he plays for one of the worst teams in the league and there's no one in front of him. That has to be taken into account at least when you're comparing him to other guy's rookie seasons.

Re: I see a potential star in Franz Wagner
When Fultz comes back he'll probably get Franz way more open looks. If Franz can start getting 6-7 open threes per game, his scoring could really take off.
