we have the third hardest schedule for the rest of the season and Randle is at best in a Slump, or at worst disengaged from the team. I still have this team slotted 10 - 15 draft wise.
yeah, despite the record improvement, we've barely beaten G-League squads w/ a relatively full roster....with the 3rd toughest SOS, I can't see us winning many games barring a complete 180
difference between last year and this year is that even when the Knicks lost last year/started slow, they still looked competent and played hard...can't be said this yr

Agreed. This kid is going to be really good. He reminds me of a bigger and stronger Rashard Lewis

We need to trade up into the top 3. We have too much "good but not superstar" prospects. I believe Grimes McBride and Toppin will be corner stone rotation players for our franchise in a successful route. But I do not see them as "superstar" talents who can carry a team. Knicks need to trade into the top 3 and take the best talent available. If we settle for less, were just rounding ourselves to be an average team. The fact that Julius Randle is the highest paid player on this team he takes zero participation on defense and boxing out shows you we have a problem because we do not have a franchise player and Julius Randle isnt all star material since he was playing for a contract. His average numbers are 46% and 34% 3pt which is basically Antonie Walker. Knicks need a new franchise player. I like McBride I see him being a Conley/Lowry type, Grimes being a lesser version of Klay, Toppin being a lesser version of Shawn Marion. We got talented players but how many Shais or Evan Mobleys or Scottie Barnes we have on our team ? Franz Wagner would be the best player on this team right now. This ties to the fact Julius is our highest paid talent and hes half the man Franz Wagner is.

I wish we could trade up to top 3. But historically that never happens.
What we need to do is recognize when we are not going anywhere and tank This team consistently wins meaningless games on years when we should just tank for a high pick. I just don't see us ever doing this as long as Thibs is our coach.

I think that happens in 2023 draft. Knicks have more than 1 pick right now and several 2nd rounders. Since it's supposed to be the deep double draft with the HS'ers joining, this is a draft I see the Knicks moving up in.
If they haven't already traded away the picks to get some not really worth it "star" like KAT.

Also depending on that Hornets pick they might try to package them both to move up. Historically drafts considered average or weak are easier to move up in and this draft is rated around average/weak.
I still think this is a late lottery team and expect their pick to be between 10-14

Talking about Jabari. His match up with Tari Eason definitely makes me think Tari would be a plus defensive wing in the league.

Draft 3 point guards. Hope to hit on at least 1.

PG is a hard position to draft for because it’s very skilled based and the more certain they are of your skills the higher you will go. Most times they end up a short combo guard or a PG who can’t shoot for their lives. We got 4 guys on the roster now who are supposed to be PG’s and look at them…. It might make more sense to either trade for one or wait until 2023 and get one in FA if enough cap space is available.

Eh. We will still have both Kemba and Rose on the books next year. Plus McBride. Plus IQ if they think he’s a PG. Plus Jokubaitis is coming over. They could draft some more but it’s probably not enough of a priority to not just take whoever the BPA is. This team isn’t good enough to draft for position and Thibs won’t play a rookie PG much anyway.
We should have traded up for LaMelo, that was our last crack at a good PG for years
they’ll probably just trade for lillard or Ben Simmons or something before that so we’ll have to see what we do at the deadline

Should we be hoping the Hornets pick conveys this draft or next year? I'm thinking even if it does the FO will trade it into the future anyway or if they do pick it will just be another young guy buried behind vets.
I guess the pick coming two drafts from now has the potential to be higher than the one this year so maybe it's better to have it later. Plus maybe by then Thibs will be replaced by Bryant and the Knicks will have a forward thinking young coach that doesn't run players into the ground....maybe.
It's so sad that the direction from last offseason looking so promising is now completely the opposite with one terrible signing. Not Randle, that's understandable, it's the other one.

Other ones. This team got bad by a half a dozen reasonably bad cut checks. Only Burks is playing the way you would hope this from summer. Rose and Noel are unfortunately injured, and Randle and Fournier regressed, and Kemba could work but it would take an investment from Thibs to make it work we didn’t see. Now he might be injured.
With that said, if the draft happens in a vacuum I still think they go for another SF. Fournier looks bad, Knox is likely going to be let go. So wing wise we have RJ and Grimes and both of them are more swingmen than forwards. It’s a pretty good SF draft too.

The two year deals with team options aren't the problem because they can be moved or be done with after this year,
It's EF multi year deal and yea, Randle regressed but unfortunately it wasn't unreasonable to sign the extension even if it backfired. It also isn't completely immovable, he can fit into a winning team as a third option and still produce. EF is a disaster in years, price and production. He's who looks like the mistake considering he also creates a log jam.
Kemba actually has shown he still has value at his price but he can't be relied on to be a full time starter.

We need a Scottie Barnes -type wing
Toronto has Barnes, OG Anunoby, Pascal Siakam, Precious Achiuwa and Chris Boucher. All strong as ****, lengthy defenders
We can *kinda* approximate that with RJ, Obi, Sims and Mitch - but we need a SF/PF defensive stopper who will make life easier for all of those guys
Randle’s not cutting it, and I’m not sure who fits that profile in this draft
