Scouting Report:
Braves: James will be looking to end an inconsistent season by continuing to show some of the consistent dominance he displayed while limiting the Marlins to two hits over seven scoreless innings on Wednesday. This marked just the fourth time in 29 starts that the 25-year-old southpaw completed seven innings. It was also the first time in 10 starts that he didn't surrender a homer. He is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in three starts against the Phillies this year.
Phillies: Moyer allowed one run on seven hits over six innings, with five walks and three strikeouts, in his start on Wednesday in St. Louis. It was the best start for the 44-year-old southpaw since he allowed one run over six innings against Florida on Aug. 7, and he followed up on a strong start in New York on Sept. 14, when he allowed two runs on four hits in seven innings.

I disagree with this type of thinking. Sure, the Braves barely have a shot at making the playoffs, but that doesn't necessarily matter. They're not only playing for that small scrap of a chance, but for personal and team pride.
Yes, itt would suck if we ended the season, say, one game out of the playoffs. But at the same time, I'd be impressed by the big improvements in the win department, and by the fact that the team didn't lay down and give up, but instead fought until the end. We probably weren't going to do too much damage in the playoffs anyways with the starting rotation we currently have.

Braves: With a little more support from his offense and bullpen, Hudson could be vying for the second 20-win season of his career. But his season filled with misfortune grew a little longer Friday, when each of the three runs he was charged with in a loss to the Brewers came after he retired the first two batters of the eighth inning. He?d thrown 17 consecutive scoreless innings entering that inning. He is 0-1 with a 4.39 ERA in four starts against the Phillies this year.
Phillies: Lohse endured his earliest non-injury related exit with the Phillies on Sept. 20, when he surrendered six earned runs in two innings against the Nationals, but ended up with a no-decision after the Phillies rallied to win the game. The right-hander had done an effective job since arriving from Cincinnati just before the trading deadline. Philadelphia is 7-3 in his 10 outings.

I feel like we basically gave the playoffs away this year. Everyone part of the Braves organization and the fans knew what needed to be done. Keeping Philly out of the playoffs would shine some light on the bad season.

Yea, our season is done. We tried to make a run at the end but we fell a little short. If we have a good offseason and make some block-buster deals, I think we can be contending for the division.

Braves: Smoltz has allowed three earned runs or fewer in each of his past 10 starts and still has registered just four wins during that span. His latest hard-luck no-decision came on Saturday, when he limited the Brewers to two earned runs and two hits in eight innings. He lost a no-hit bid courtesy of a two-out sixth-inning homer. The 40 year-old veteran has eclipsed 200 innings for a third straight season and he's posted a 2.76 ERA in his past 10 starts.
Phillies: In Kendrick's last start Sept. 22 at Washington, he gave up six hits and no earned runs in a solid six-inning performance. Kendrick also struck out six and walked none. Kendrick has gone at least six innings in seven of his last 10 starts. He actually has a better ERA (3.69) at Citizens Bank Park compared to a 4.00 ERA on the road.
If we can't make the playoffs then hopefully we can spoil the Phillies chances. We have a great opertunity to do that because John Smoltz is on the mound tonight.
