Johnson's Future in Question

While it has been generally conceded that Blue Jays management is planning to bring back this year's injury-plagued team intact, there will be, inevitably, a couple of areas where change is necessary. One of those areas could be in left field. Reed Johnson was primed to be the everyday starter there and in the leadoff role as well but was derailed right from the start by a herniated disc."

Well, Johnson has been very ineefective pretty much all year. He should be a .285 plus hitter and have a .360 plus OBP. In 2006 season, he was considered one of the top leadoff men in the league and this season has been abismal to say the least.

The Jays are looking to resign Stairs plus they have Lind and if worse comes to worse, probably John Ford Griffin. They have a few emerging stars in the farm system in Travis Snider and Yoberman Chavez who probably won't be ready for 3 years....but having Stairs/Lind as a stop gap isn't bad IMO.

Your thoughts....or trade ideas?

This isn't much of a surprize to me, after this season, with all the injuries and the up and down season. We need to shake things up, outfield is a position that has many good players, and more consistant players. It's sad to see him go, but it has to be done. It's time for JP to step his game up.

I'm expecting him to be traded during the offseason, but for nothing too big.

Hard to believe Reed Johnson turned out to be a disappointment this year. But out of all the injured guys, I think he's someone who actually could come back to regular form. Maybe he'll train with Troy Glaus over the winter.

As for those farm guys.....don't count on them. Adam Lind, etc, are proof that you don't know which guys are worth anything until they do it in the majors. And even then, like Marcum and McGowan and Casey, it could take a year or two in the majors. Are we starting over a new 5 yr plan or are we going for it next year?

A new 5 year plan would require drafting well, or at the very least dealing our top players for prospects from teams who have drafted well. With very few exceptions our current management has categorically proven that they can't do either of those things well.
