I’m sorry to hear that you feel the need to suppress your identity around 51% of the population. That must be difficult for you.

Might I recommend opening yourself up and see the real you and trusting them to accept you. Living with these types of insecurities is unhealthy, inhibits relationship building and deprived your friends and family of knowing the real you.

Women, as a gender, are just as vulgar as men, just as ruthless, and just as competitive. There is nothing you are going to say or do that will shock and surprise most women. Generally, your most deviant proclivities were shared by a woman with a similar set.

I think it could be a decent choice simply because I don't think Becky was going to get a head coaching job in the nba anytime soon.

A few teams pretended to interview her for free brownie points but I don't think they seriously considered her.

I have no clue how much she makes as an assistant coach vs this new gig though. Also being an assistant coach in the nba is probably better experience wise than being a coach in the wnba.

If she gets paid a lot more as an wnba head coach then its not a bad idea but how much can a wnba coach make when wnba players get paid so little?

the unfortunate truth is becky was never going to get that chance because orgs are not ready to be "locked into" her as coach.

by that i mean not so much hiring her, but locked into not being able to fire her.

It’s probably a good move for her. The area lacking on her resume was executive leadership and the only way to get that is by being a head coach somewhere. Going to an established quality program puts her in the best position to succeed.

I’m also happy that she avoided the likely better paying college head coach route. As we’ve seen, the skill-set that goes into recruiting and managing 18 year olds rarely translates to the NBA/WNBA, so if she’s taking that step, doing so at the higher level with older players is prudent.

In 3-5 years, she’ll be less of a risk, and will have positioned her self with better interview answers.

The league is the most progressive as it's ever been. You literally have an openly gay NFL player currently playing and no one cares. The idea that NBA players (who are more polished and mature) than ever are going to have a problem playing for a female coach is ridiculous. Balls Deep is stuck in the sixties

Also per article, Laimbeer is most likely getting a front office position so it's not like Laimbeer was ousted to make room for Becky.

Laimbeer has always gone above and beyond to create opportunities for former players to coach in this league, so no shock at all that he's stepping aside again. I understand he was a villain from his NBA days but he's done so much for the WNBA.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but the Aces are owned by Raiders owner Mark Davis. The Davis family had a pretty good record of being on the right side of equity until the Gruden email disaster. I imagine part of the thought process was trying to build back some good will in that regard by giving a high profile female coach a lucrative opportunity.

I did some googling, if she's at 200k, given she was "in line as the backup coach" that feels like she was grossly under paid. That's more what I'd have expected from the end of the bench type coaches.

They made a deep playoff run last season so this could take them where they want next season. For Hammond maybe this a dress rehearsal for the NBA. Who can even say if she's a good professional level coach or not? It will take more than word of mouth.

$200k isn't accurate...according to ESPN, her salary with the Spurs was in the 750k ballpark.
