Season's over?

My comment is explaining why people are currently sleeping on him.

I hear you. I was just messin around.

First I should say, I'm not all up in arms about him not getting acclaim rn. But I don't think it's necessary to wait until the playoffs to laud his (or anyone else's) play.

We certainly don't wait to rip guys who struggle. Folks didn't wait to jump to the conclusion that the "new" rules would totally hamper him.

He's as close to the total offensive package as you're going to get right now.

His scoring efficiency is now in the Kyrie tier thus far this season (FG%/3P%/FT%).

Hawks are just so bad defensively and Trae is at the center of it all. Is he worse than Isaiah? It's hard to say. He's killing them on that end of the floor.

As an early Trae critic, I think it’s safe to say he’s something extremely special offensively. Even with the rule changes the guy is a prolific scorer and distributor, and this year very efficient given the volume. The defensive criticisms are legit, but otherwise he’s beyond talented, even if I find him personally annoying.

Every great scorer has found a way to stay on the floor when his team needs defense.
KD uses his length, Harden uses his bulk to push bigs in the paint, Luka his size, Jokic his positioning and instincts, even Kyrie can dial it up enough when really needed.

Trae needs to find something too, he can't be permanently hiding.

KD was always a plus to pretty good defender.
Agreed about Luka.
Jokic has never been bad.
Kyrie always sucked in D.
Harden has always been good in defending the post.
Trae can't do something about it. It's a size matter. The Hawks must find ways to hide him.

If they must hide him then they need to get rid of any trace of dudes like Bogdanovic. Can *maybe* hide one, but never two.

Yes Trae is a bad defender, but that's not the problem with the losses.
The guys who are supposed to be the defenders are either out injured (Hunter and Okongwu) or not playing up to par (Capela). Add to that Nate's stubbornness in playing Lou Williams and Gallo for extended minutes together or playing small with Gallo at center....I can keep going but Nate's rotations are sucking the life out of the Hawks.

Their problem is that their best perimeter defender(Hunter) is out every once in a while.
If Reddish is also out, there's nobody who can defend. Bogdanovic and Huerter are essentially the same player.
The roster is offensively oriented. Heavily.
Guys like Smart or Dort would have been good gets for them but i don't know if they're willing to cut ties with bogie or huerter.

Yes, the 6'1" guard with normal wing span is going to do what, exactly? He doesn't have the physical tools to ever be a good defender. His defense has actually improved over the years. The most any reasonable expectation for him is to be average on defense. He's not far from that.

Yeah tell that to Chris Paul or John Stockton.
He has to try harder.

Yup. And then ball hog on offence. Fun.

This isn’t a particularly fair assessment.

1. He’s top-5 in assists for the third straight season.

2. The team literally falls to ash when he isn’t carrying the offense.

It’s not really being a ball hog if the entire offense is built around his presence and skill set.

Sorry I don’t mean to be offensive. Just a comment in the heat of it. But in terms of your comments. He dominates the ball on offensive for you guys, as a point guard, so his high assist numbers aren’t surprising. My comment was based on the deflating nature of having a teammate that doesn’t try hard on defence but then gets selfish on offence. Like harden on the Rockets, except Trae isn’t as good as harden was.

Uh as a hater of the hawks but a fan of good basketball (work ethic, improvement and guys struggling to keep hair) I am bumping this thread cause Trae is currently all nba 1st team and the question is who’s the other guard…

It sure did get quiet when the Hawks beat the Suns last night and Trae Young showed in spades he's the best point guard in the NBA.
