NBA Trade Thread # 5

Post#1 » by MalagaBulls » Sat Jan 1, 2022 9:15 am

The Bulls are clicking, gelling, and winning games they should win. A lot of peeps say they are 1 impact player away from really being in the same convo with the Suns, Dubs, Nets, & Bucks. But on the flip side maybe we have enough to make that deep playoff run and more than a puncher's chance to make it to the Finals.
There has been a lot of debate about upgrading the 4 with a ton of tweets centered around a PWill + package for JGrant. But here is some food for thought to just ride it out with the troops you got. Old thread almost at 2K posts. Discuss

I think we don't know what we need until we get to the playoff and figure out where we fall short. At the moment, we sort of "know" what we need to improve on (i.e., rebounding, size at the frontcourt), but it's really not been proven yet, because we are still winning despite. And I don't even think we've seen this team at its full potential yet; Coby is just starting to come around recently, Vuc is starting to settle into his role, Lonzo and AC are still out. If we do make a move I doubt it will be anything major. Unless suddenly AK decided to abandon the Patrick Williams project and package him (with some pieces) for some established veteran that is still in the same age range as Caruso/Zach/Lonzo. But I doubt it. Pat is AK's pick, unlike Wendell/Coby/Lauri, I think AK is going to show more patience with Pat.

I'd like to make a Robert Covington trade but honestly, I don't want to give up some combination of White/TBJ/DJJ for him. He's having a down year himself.

The more I look at things, I think the buyout/waiver wire is going to be option 1a.

Interesting turmoil going on with the Rockets. If it persists I gotta believe they will sell Wood and others at the TDL.

Wood isn't going to be worth what we give up to be a 4th option, easy pass especially giving up Pat.

Sorry, I should have been clear. I didn't necessarily mean he would wind up a Bull. It just has all the ingredients of being a mess that might provoke a sale of assets, that's all.

Wonder how easily Darius Bazely could be had. Has the length to match up with KD/Giannis and is a solid rebounder. He’s still figuring out his game of course, but is somehow who could contribute now while having a lot of room to improve in the future. Obviously, OKC loves picks.

More of a general statement than anything, I'm seeing people want to give up Pat/Coby/Portland 1st for him which is ridiculous.

It will indeed be interesting as to how the TDL debate pans out as the date gets closer. As the premise in my OP states, maybe they have a great run in the next 6 weeks staying in the top 4 (League wide record wise).
On top of that you get Lonzo & AC back sometime this week so you can reasonably expect a top 10 DRtg rating at some point.
Maybe all of that combined has them shop for a smaller value asset like you propose or none at all.

OKC is pretty high on Bazley. Can’t see them moving him.

If DRose didn’t get injured, would’ve loved to bring him home for a chance to get a ring with his hometown team. Knicks aren’t doing anything this year.

Problem with that is, we're loaded at guard. I would have liked to see him come back also, but that was in the offseason.

think the calculus on what it takes to land wood might have changed last night

i don’t think wood is the optimal fit for our team, but it’s worth monitoring the situation there if you can get him on a discount. i know some people will probably be wary of adding a guy who just refused to check into a game, but sometimes it pays to be confident in the culture you’ve built. if wood responds well to a better work environment where he’ll actually win games, then you’ve suddenly added a very talented player entering his prime who addresses several team needs.

Here's to Wood lowering his trade value.

According to random people on Twitter, Wood's been a poor locker room presence his entire career and really only cares about getting his numbers. People said similar things about Zach so who knows how true it is but would make me hesitate to trade Pat+Coby for him.

I would like to see Jordan Bell in action before deciding on any team changes. If he can fit right in as a big and just rebound/defend we might be set.

Yeah, I don't think we have the vet to put a guy like that in his place. DD and Vuc seem pretty low key in terms of their vocal leadership.

Grant for Pat, TBJ and Matt Williams works

Bulls would have to be OK with lux tax
Grant would have to be OK with being a role player
Reinsdorf would have to be OK with expanding the trophy cabinet

Return to Chicago Bulls
