Ant, Reid, Prince, Pat Bev all are out of covid protocols...Dane said that pat Bev will play today and I guess the other 3 will probably play against Utah on Friday

The only way for Naz to be back is if his failed test was a false positive. That said. I don’t see why he would miss tonight.

All we need is KAT & DLO and let's make a big run for 2022

I really hope KAT and DLO end up clearing Covid protocols in the next couple of days (today should be day 6 for Towns and day 5 for Russell).

What's not to like about the Monroe signing....has been pretty close to all any of us could've asked for...when wanting said open 15th roster spot filled with a league minimum big.

Clarification on the Covid 10-day deals...my understanding is that they don't count against the cap. Are we able to offer him two consecutive 10-day deals (I guess that assumes we still have guys out)? Before presumably, needing to make a longer term decision (at least for the season anyways)....

You need 2 guys out to bring one in on a hardship contract. We have Nowell, Knight, Beasley, MCD, Layman, and Naz (assuming he really does get Covid,) who have not been in protocols with actual Covid. JMAC started the season there. If two of the above named get sick we could give him another 10 day.

Well....technically Russell and Towns are still in protocols. There's our two. Is Wright still out too?

I believe Wright is still in protocols. The question is when did we sign Greg? I am pretty sure it was Monday (before the Boston game.) That means you need them still out till next Thursday to sign another 10 day (unless I am missing something.)

I would also point out that traditional 10-day contracts can start to be offered on January 5.

Unlike the hardship deals, these count against the cap bringing us closer to the lux.

also, teams with open spots could compete with us. We would probably need to offer him a straight roster spot on a minimum to keep him.

So what is the implication if after all the possible 10 days are up we were to sign. Monroe to the vet minimum? If i understand correctly his salary would be something around $2.3m which NBA would cover a portion to make it $1.6 but would also be prorated for rest of the season. So assuming it’s a few more games and somewhere around $850k are we in the luxury tax?

Nicely done. That’s how I see it too, and while I don’t know the exact number, $850k is about how far we’re under the lux threshold.

That said, I would be surprised if we signed Monroe. I’m not saying he hasn’t done well, but almost every one of these ten day contracts signed around the league will just expire after ten (or twenty) days. Teams want to keep that space under the lux clear for emergencies - and when we’re healthy, Monroe is just a nice luxury,

I get what your saying Shrink & agree for the most part....this one might be the exception though? But no need to rush into it before we have to...see if he can continue to show some merit. Potentially another deal happens sooner than later & there's a domino-effect that makes this call clearer as well (Lakers/Cle deal...maybe broke the ice?)....just interesting wrinkle to give us something a little unexpected to think about .

Only reason I think we might consider otherwise is if we want to possibly use Reid as a trade chip at the deadline.

Unless there is a deal for another big that is near to completion, I would sign Monroe for the rest of the season. Monroe fills a hole this team has had for a couple of years in that he is the only guy on the roster with the size/strength to compete in the paint against the bigger centers. I don't know that he would even play every night, but there will be a fair number of games where he would be very useful. If the luxury tax line is an issue, I doubt it would be hard to move Layman in a deal that would save a million or two.

Because of all the outbreaks...did I hear correctly that they are not putting a game restriction count on the 2-way contracts again this year? If so, even if Nathan Knight became something they wanted to retain long term...no real incentive to give him say 15th roster spot, correct? I assume, we'd also retain rfa rights as well?

The incentive is if you want to acquire another 2 way player to make a trade work. Other than that Knight is still limited to 50 and I don’t know his number. Also not sure if two ways can play in playoffs.
