I would agree with this. Right now Mobley is still top dawg.
Giddey is #2 in my mind. This kid has it all (minus the defense). Court vision is so elite. I would have been happy taking him as well. I would love to see Barnes develop and be given the opportunity to push the ball up the court like Giddey has received.
The other hot riser is Franz Wagner. I would never have thought this prior to the draft....never.
Giddey is essentially a tall Ricky Rubio. Can't shoot from outside and bad on defense. Maybe he develops in those areas.
Mobley, Cade, Franz and Scottie, then Giddey in ROY. If Giddey would win it it would be like Michael Carter-Williams winning by putting up offensive numbers on a bad team.
Your comparison of Giddey with Rubio is a tad premature, don't you think. His shot from distance is definitely a work in progress, but the other skills are more advanced than I had anticipated as a 19 year old. And the height difference is not simply a throw-away observation; he is an elite rebounder for a point guard and will continue to improve with physical growth and maturity. And when he actually plays with better teammates his assist rate will only go up. Look at the scrubs he is playing with and passing to.
Either way, the ROY is Mobley's to lose.
Agreed.
Giddey is a very very tall point guard. Plus, he is rather crafty at the hoop, something Rubio never had and never will.
