So confused, he’s not wearing a brace, he seems to be fit, he’s on the sideline with the team, why isn’t he playing?

He still need to work on getting back into b-ball shape. He will be on minute restriction, they can strategically place him in the game.

Apparently, he's been working out.

Not sure what execlly are you refering to.
He had hyperexstended knee. Normal player need 4 to 8 weeks to recover. Isaac needed 8 months.
Than he torn ACL after playing 30 min of basketball. Than Magic decided to slap him with 4 years contracts.
Nobody has seen him play basketball since. From January 2020 to verge of 2022, Jonathan Isaac played 31 min of basketball for Orlando. And costed them $30M. Guy literally made 1 000 000 for every minute he played in last 2 calendar years.

So yea... he either has degenerative knee issues or he reinjuried himself during rehab.

In both cases re-sign him on blind makes them look like bunch of incompetent fools. Witch is execlly what Weltman and Hammond are anyway.

I mean look... You have nba player that is out for at least year, who is nba role player. Matter of fact you have two of them. Both have qulifing offers during first year off rehab. What's the logic behind re-signing them before they can even play basketball ? You really fear somebody is going to snatch point guard with fundamentally broken jumpshot and injury prone PF role player?

It was awful decision at times, it aged even worst. Year passed by, half of season is behind us, non of them still can play. Their first year of new contracts is complete waste.

supposedly his contract had an Exhibit 3 clause in there, which could limit or cancel his money from salary cap. remains to be seen if and when they use it.

From what I read the Exhibit 3 rider makes years 3 and 4 non-guaranteed if he can't play because of a knee injury. Which means the Magic would still be on the hook for $34.8 million for this season and next season even if Isaac never plays again.

The most recent Bill Simmons podcast included both Isaac and Fultz’s contracts as 2 of the top 15 worst in the league.

With each passing day that Isaac remains off the basketball court, it becomes harder and harder to argue that statement. I’m genuinely concerned.

Yeah, it's not looking great. My other biggest concern is his body mechanics overall. He lands very awkwardly when he dunks and lacks foundational strength for his frame. My magic buddy and I always cringed his rookie year when he'd fall down on so many of his dunks. Now he has significant foundation issues to his lower body. Color me pessimistic as much as I love Judah.

If I were betting on outcomes, I'd have Fultz turning it around much higher on my list that Judah.

Orlando is purposely holding them out. I don’t feel bad for them at all.

Bingo... Its just obvious when you see Cole Anthony on the bench and he's out 2-3 weeks with an apparent sprained ankle. Outside of Fultz they're trying to make sure they are in good draft position before everyone comes back. Also, they want the younger guys to develop their on ball ability/dribbling.

Franz is a SF and Issac is a PF. Also, Issac elite play is on defense. It’s an article way off the mark from the points it’s trying to make.

I do agree that Franz has now reduced the blow to the franchise if Issac never comes back as a good player.

don't want to stir up this pointless debate again...BUT, despite his shot blocking, there's no question that the bulk of Isaac's defensive impact occurs on the perimeter...call him whatever you want, but it's far from set in stone that he's strictly a PF (or anybody is these days). I guess if you're 6'11, you're a 'big' and that's that.

I think its better to focus on roles. All positions need to defend perimeter to some extent nowadays.
Wagner and Isaac seem to be great fit. Wagner more of a ball handler on offense, guarding above the break, closing out on defense. Isaac spacing the floor and catching lobs while being primary weak side blocker and rebounder.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

When should we expect a possible return? Around All Star break?

Return to Orlando Magic
