Lauri and Sexton to Washington for Neto, Kuzma, and Avdija. Would Washington go for that? Maybe add a protected first as well?

John Wall won't even come off the bench for the Rockets. He's not taking a buyout, unless it's like .95 cents on the dollar and I can't see the Rockets doing that.
I think Wall might be willing to come off the bench if it's for a contender as opposed to the Rockets who have no chance of contending.
JBB would start Wall with Garland if Wall was still any good.

Kuzma and Neto sure, definitely no Avidija for that package. He's not untouchable, but he's one of our youngsters that has some good and is capable of defending 1 through 5. He unfortunately plays on a team that has regressed majorly from other positions on defense after the hot start to the season, but his defense has been elite in many games.

Without Avidija the deal would fall apart. Lauri and Sexton (even as he is) is worth more than Kuzma and Neto. I think the Cavs would just run Pangos out there 48 minutes a game before making that deal. If Avidija is that valuable to the Wizards I don't see anything like this working.

That wouldn't make much sense. You'd be a lot better off having Wall run the second unit. Like I said before, I can understand the logic behind not wanting to come off the bench in Houston since they have no real shot of contending and are at the bottom of the league. But in Cleveland? Look at what being in the second unit did for Rubio as far as his stock was concerned. Wall can absolutely benefit from being their sixth man there.
Honestly, this whole situation is just straight up ****. Losing someone like Rubio is an incredibly difficult thing to deal with simply because he was in such a unique position. A legitimate difference making PG who could run your offense and play good defense who isn't even a starter is incredibly difficult to replace. It would be like if the Clippers had lost Harrell two years ago when he was their sixth man.
Like I said before, I think Cleveland is just better off cutting their losses and doing what they can to improve in the areas they were weak in when they still had Rubio. They aren't going to be able to replace his impact, so they might as well invest any trade assets they have into someone who can be a legitimate long term benefit for the team.

I didn't say it made sense, I said it's what JBB would do.

He/Altman has never hesitated to start Sexton and Garland together, or Rubio and Garland together when Okoro wasn't available. Wall is a Rich Paul client and if he came to the Cavs it would only happen after certain "understandings" were arrived at. The availability of playing time is usually pretty persuasive, but they hung banners of John Wall in DC.
Egos ...
Obviously, I don't want to see the Cavs waste their trade assets and I worry about losing players who have been contributing to our success; but if Wall gets bought out that's not a concern.

Forget Wall, trade Rubio's contract and the Rocket's second for Eric Gordon. He's a combo guard you can slide into a three guard rotation. So long as Okoro only plays with one of Garland or Gordon, we'll be okay. Then go see what Dante Mr. Glass Exum is doing.

Exum’s playing in China. Doing fine but won’t be available until their season ends. Would be a good pickup going into the playoffs.
Trey Burke is another option I’d look at. I’d prefer a bigger guard, but, keeping Osman/Okoro out of PG duty is imperative.

Burke sucks. I'd go G League before I'd trade for his guaranteed deal.

Yeah, I was hoping to get a look at Kyle Guy in a Cavs uniform, but, it looks like the Heat got there first. Gleague is pretty picked over with the Covid crush.
Maybe check in on Kris Dunn?
What about Brunson from the Mavs? What kind of contract is he looking for in FA?

So here's the play where Okoro sprained his elbow:
?s=20
Maybe I'm showing my age, but I think I might have sacrificed Stevens for the night after the officials let that go.

Just makes me wonder why we have a bunch of guys who slip screens and nobody I can think of that sets hard screens and also gets away with illegal ones. Even when we had Perkins and bothered to use him it was just too knock someone over rather than exploit the dumb refs.

Okoro with the sprained elbow, out ~3 weeks. Could've been worse...

The good news is we're still generating assists even without Garland and Rubio, so the guys are still moving the ball and relying on each other.

I don't know if Ben charges for his newsletter, but this raised my eyebrows. If he does charge for it, I'll put a poll up as to whether Jon should pay for it and share the good stuff under the fair use exception. Brb.

Hey, anyone can donate. It's to help Ben's friend Joe who owns Grille 91 and apparently in this case his employee Brit. He's been stricken with Covid and it's threatening to cost him his business. I haven't signed up to donate at this point, but if I do I'd be obligated to NOT share the information.
https://www.grille91.com/trade-deadline-benefit/
RCF members can also donate through this link: https://realcavsfans.com/index.php?donate/help-for-business-hit-by-covid.20/donate
My expectation is he has some interesting rumors and possibilities that would give some insight, but per usual the Cavs if they do anything it will come out of left field.

And thinking about it for a minute, I did go and donate $50 and enter the raffle if for no other reason to emphasize that I really believe this is a legit cause from a reliable person and not some crappy internet fraud. It's nice to be able to help someone directly, even if I may never get to Grille 91.

Re: 2021-22 regular season thread
I was pondering if Russell Westbrook had ever learned to run a team (not just fill the box score) that his career would be aging a lot better ... ala Andre Miller. Miller wasn't doing anything flashy at 33 and would eventually transition to a bench role, but because like Rubio he knew how to run a team and wasn't afraid to play defense - he generally sustained a positive impact.
As for Ricky, he too may be able to extend his career even after this latest injury and having started playing pro ball so young. The key is that he's already accepting coming off the bench.
But back to Andre, it got me wondering what he was up to and I found this article about Andre and his early days with the Cavs I hadn't read before:
https://www.nba.com/cavaliers/features/wherearethey-miller-201210
He admits he didn't really want to leave the Cavs and wasn't as concerned about money as the reports at the time made it out, he was just following the advice of his agent rather than his heart. Seems he has some regrets about that, especially about not being around to play with LeBron.
Albeit ... if Andre stayed there's a fair chance we win more than 19 games ...
