This is a bad basketball team. You could see it against GW, George Mason and Hofstra. Three ok but not great mid-majors. Ayala is the major problem. He's their Brad Beal without the talent. He can't create his own shot and he's just a stat stuffer. Russell is a mid-major point guard. Takes some terrible shots. Not a great shooter. I don't think they have any other option. It would have helped if Martinez wasn't hurt, but he could be lost for several games. I kept hearing how good he was and I haven't seen it. Maybe with more running, he and Russell with thrive, but I doubt it.

This team is in a transition year. I don't care if Manning gets this team to the NCAA's (doubt it), Damon Evans has to hit a home run with this hire. They need an under 45 coach who can recruit the DMV and Baltimore. They need a coach who is not going to walk the ball up after rebounds. Somebody who gets the fanbase fired up. But ultimately, they need a guy who can get results. Not just make the NCAA's every other year and make the Sweet 16 once.

Morsell made the right move to leave Md and go to Marquette to play for Shaka Smart. He's a guy I would consider, though he's from Wisconsin so I doubt he's moving to College Park.

Jalen Smith played 21 minutes with Ayton out sick. He had 7/9/2 and apparently played well.

Pearl made the final 4 with Auburn in 2019 - and lost to UVA by 1 point. But 2 years later, he was 13-14. I remember watching Auburn in 2019 - he came across as a great coach - with a lot of charisma.

Maryland beating 20th ranked Florida last Saturday is the kind of game that could give Danny Manning some momentum.

Gotta admit, I didn't think he'd ever play in the NBA. CCJ was all over this - nailed it! Looks like Wiggins belongs in the NBA.

Wiggins gets the career game and then gets COVID. Well, at least we have the Pinstripes Bowl, assuming that will go on and Maryland hoops plays Lehigh (1-9). Woo hoo!

Now the women's program sucks. The men's basketball is horrible and the women are no longer a top team.

Georgetown is worse so I'm sure he's not thrilled with either. Bad team. Fatts Russell and Hakim Hart got benched against Michigan and they got blasted. Even the strongest Md fans, like myself, are having a hard time watching this garbage. Turge quit and it looks like some of the players did as well. The only guy I feel for is Danny Manning. He didn't asked to be thrown into this situation.

Getting back to what's really important and that's finding a head coach.

Latest rumor I heard was Rick Pitino for three years. I don't get that shortsighted, lazy thinking. I'd be looking at Kevin Willard, Nate Oates, Shaka Smart (doubt he'd leave his hometown) and Andy Enfield.

Smart just beat Villanova. He took VCU to a final four. He didn't do great at a football school, but he'd do fine at Maryland. Nobody ever doubted Pitino's coaching ability. I'm sure the hookers in D.C. would love if he got the job.
