So....when does Johnny Davis enter the top 5 conversation? So impressed with his game and I'm not just talking about tonight.

The man with the xtra common name made a statement today. I've still haven't invested one game in any of these prospects. Might as well wait until tourny time

Trevion Williams might be the best passing big man in the world right now and that includes Jokic. Had at least 5 highlight reel passes tonight and the full court bullet pass to Edey at the end of the game was as good a pass as any I can remember seeing in my 40 years of watching.

I've always thought Rodney Hood's constant injuries are b/c of the motion in his lower body on his jumper, the landing looks like it puts a lot of stress on his ankles/achilles, and also makes it much more likely he'll land on people's feet. Mathurin has almost the exact same jumper with that terrifying lower body movement (better prospect, obviously).

I've had him 6 in my mock for about two weeks. I think there is a really clear top 5 right now, but if you told me he or Mathurin broke into that conversation it wouldn't surprise me.

Davis is special. He's got Steph's game with Suggs body and athleticism. But Ivey posses star potential too with a great all around game and elite mix of athleticism, skill and BBIQ. Like, Ivey seems the type that can take over games like the Mitchells, Beals and Edwards of the world. Whereas, Davis might be better suited for a ball movement heavy system like the Warriors. Still, Banchero is a better version of Tatum, how does he not go #1? Several guys worth tanking for, that's for sure.

It sucks that he's not at least a bit taller, a better athlete or a better shooter (just one of those) but I would love to try him out on the Warriors in those high-post split actions Kerr constantly runs. Obviously not by using a first-round pick, though.

I moved him up from 7 to 5 after last night's game..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Johnny Davis had an enormous game and Benedict Mathurin had a big game. Which one is the better prospect?

Davis is a little better IMO.

Mathurin is a little more athletic and a little better outside shooter. He's also 1" taller.

Davis seems to be like more of an alpha, a dog, he's got this toughness, swagger, fearlessness to him - this "give me the ball late in a close game against one of the best teams in the country and get out of my way" vibe to him, better at creating off the bounce, better passer, better defender.

I agree with Clyde on Ivey probably not being a top 2 pick.

I think a good comp for Ivey is fox. Both have that blazing athleticism and burst and neither are elite passers

I don't think Davis is a better defender. The rest, I agree with although Mathurin plays with an underrated 'edge' also.

Does anything think that Jahvon Quinerly or Emmanuel Akot have NBA potential?

Trevor Keels should be a 3&D guy, but for some reason he is either the secondary ball handler or even the 1b ball handler. He is beyond frustrating to watch.

Honestly don’t get why he has an unlimited leash and starts over Griffin. Griffin has been the much better player the last 4-5 games and now this game.

Yeah Griffin has really started to turn his season around after the slow start. I didn't watch but it looks like Jabari Smith had a very rough game against South Carolina. Also how has Paolo's defense looked as of late?

Haven't gotten around to watching the Auburn game yet, will probably watch that in the morning so ya cant comment anymore than just the quiet box score.

When it comes to Paolo and his defense, I think it has gotten better. With the emergence of AJ lately, K has been going with the smaller lineup with Paolo at the 5 with the 3 wings and Roach on the perimeter. I think he has done a pretty good job personally.

But with that said, since AJ has started to play more minutes and we have started to see Paolo at the 5 by himself, Paolo really hasnt had to face anyone with great size yet. GT, VT, Elon arent throwing lineups with legit big men in it. GT had a 7'1 guy play, but he played 14 minutes and most of those were in the 25 minutes of Williams or John being out there and he isnt that good of a player if we are being honest.

The ACC is pretty weak this year so its not like we will see him faced up against a ton of talented front courts. But so far I will say I think he has looked good defensively playing the small ball 5 so far. Not great or a big time impact maker on that end, just solid good defense. But again take that with some grain of salt because the competition so far hasnt been good.

When it comes to AJ, Id say outside of the Elon game, he has probably been the 3rd best Duke player over the last 5 games. He's been really good defensively (I think he has been Duke's best defender) and he's been a lights out shooter and he plays very well within the offense. Sometimes it takes him a few minutes out there to put his stamp in the game. But once its clear he feels comfortable, he makes an impact.

Yeah, I could see him falling to 6th or 7th because of fear he's not really the outside shooter he looks and wings like Davis and Griffin leaping over him.

Also, of the 9 teams struggling, only New Orleans and Indiana jumps out as being a good fit for a Fox type, since teams like OKC, Sacramento, Portland, San Antonio probably want a forward or wing.

this is it right here, looking at the top10 i'm not sure where he fits

OKC? they got Giddey, SGA and Dort in their back court
Hou? they just drafted Green they play same role essentially
Orlando? they just took Suggs, Cole the year before and have Hampton
Detroit? he could be a decent fit next to Cade but chances are they go for one of the forwards/bigs
Sac? Fox, Hali, just drafted Mitchell...don't see them going the Ivey route
Spurs? they got Primo last year, Vassell the year before and have Dejounte, they'll most likely go forward/big as well

Indiana or New Orleans seem like the best fits on the surface, maybe Portland if they decide to tank moving forward.

In theory OKC could throw out an Ivey-SGA-Giddey lineup and tank again by having awful big man play and just use Dort to move up (they also have 16, 30 and 35 as of now) in the draft from some teams that thinks his shooting will rebound when he's the 5th option on the court and needs a backcourt/wing defender.

But in practice I think Presti would look for someone bigger, though they are somehow 13th on D this year and 30th on O.

I really quite like the Indy fit in that Ivey is used to playing with a big anchoring the offense now and they could eventually try to move Brogdon for a SF or pick to throw out an Ivey-Duarte-SF-Sabonis-Turner lineup if they don't end up moving a big, and Brogdon at the 2 and Duarte at the 3 isn't horribly small.
Where's the D?
