Scottie in a super role-player Diaw/Draymond type role is good for him right now.
I do hope he develops a mindset to be the go-to alpha type scorerDalek wrote:vulture wrote:

I think when Toronto looked hopeless to win games and was at the near bottom of the standings, anyone would have taken ROY plus a high lottery pick as great outcomes for a lost season.
Now that it looks like Pascal is back and FVV is playing at an ALL-NBA second team level, I think people are slow to adjust to the change in outlook.
Originally, I thought Scottie was that perfect hybrid player for Toronto. A high impact role player on a playoff team, and he is that glue guy. I think people just got overly excited when his scoring trended upwards. Over December and January he has been more of that super role player type that he was on Florida State (high assist rate and rebounding% with some timely scoring).

Honestly, it is a great place to be because this is just a starting point for him. I don't put a cap on his ceiling, it is just that the way the team is currently composed and at his current stage in development, he is in an optimal position. Sure, he could be chucking shots on a bad team like Cade, but he is building winning habits. He just won't be Kawhi overnight.
It kind of reminds me of Paul George when he first played on Indy. Danny Granger and other vets were ahead of him on the team, but he showed up as an x-factor each game playing great defense on guys like Lebron. He eventually took on the leadership role over a couple years.

Unfortunately, Paul George took over that team in 2013 when Danny Granger got injured and by default, he had to take the driver's seat.

Not exactly sure why you comparing Scottie to some of the best players to ever play the game? They are outliers for a reason.
Not exactly sure what you are not understanding.
For those who think Scottie’s development is being hindered by lack of usage. This is not the case.
Players dont need high usage to develop. The guys above that developed into stars above didnt. Players like Pascal Siakam, OG who came into the league raw didnt either.
Why were you comparing him to all time great players though?
Look at Kawhi, he was only taking 6 shots per game. Can we then assume that Scottie will be able to develop into an elite level offensive player if we only allow him to shoot ~6 times per game like Kawhi did?
Those players have all time great level talent that they could rely on no matter what development/usage plan they had. It's way too early to assume Scottie has that luxury.
You added Pascal and OG into your argument after the fact. If you had them in your original argument, I would have agreed with you. At this point, Scottie is closer to Pascal and OG talent level wise than the all time great players you mentioned. He could be a superstar but it's way too early to tell.
Now you are just rambling with no actual argument. Players dont need high usage to develop. /end story.

Worst game of the season for Barnes but I don't care because I liked how he played in that fourth quarter. Helped this team win.

Rough game for the boy, made crucial passes in that real run to take the lead though.
He's definitely playing the Draymond Green/Marc Gasol role for us.

Since Siakam has returned Barnes has gone down the tubes while Raptors beat teams missing their good players. Barnes is the team garbage man player because that POS Siakam . Enjoy when we play some real teams and he does his usual choke job

He just refused to attack mamu or nwora but most of all his defence was just bad. Rookie game from him but this team will never get anywhere if he refuses to be aggressive.

He doesn't refuse to do anything he just doesn't uave the ability to go at them in the way we'd like. He doesn't have that explosiveness thay will allow him to blow by mismatches.

Bucks were really dialed into Scottie as a passer; they were immediately jumping into his passing lanes when he caught the ball, resulting in deflections and turnovers. That's gonna come more and more from opposing defences. He's gotta learn to become more assertive looking for his own shot, which will probably take some time considering he's never really been a primary scoring type, not even in high school.

Wtf you talking about, he played well, he's not getting the touches he's about the 5th option right now. Stat wise is was not great but he deflected passes and clamped down on the defensive end in the second half alongside timely passes.

Re: Official Scottie Barnes Thread
He is the Raptors' Kyle Anderson with a full lineup. He's also not a natural point guard and will never be able to play that role.
But clearly he is playing hurt, so not sure why he is playing at all. Should sit several weeks until he gets rid of all his issues.

The thing is he's always looking for the pass, because he have shoot first guys on out team, he will get his bit he has to take it.

He's the 5th option bro, too many shoot first guys on our team. If we really want him to shine we have to get rid of a few guys, Thai will happen in the future, and Barnes will be handed the keys.

Siakam put up 33/5/6/3/1 on 63 TS% with 4 TOV and was +11 in 42 minutes. Scottie had as many TOV and missed FT as Siakam despite taking only 6 shots and attempting 4 free throws. Arguably his worst game of the season, but he was still impactful. Growth.
