What? Why would anyone find it offensive? Batman is a work of fiction. It's not reality. Can't you differentiate between the two?

Really?? You mean to tell me the events that take place in that movie are not real?? Smh…

You tell me, mate. You were the one pretending that people would be offended by that.

Ya Im usually all for pushing boundaries, but they're literally making a reference to his dad killing a teenage girl or his dad getting shot and from the sounds of it its a reference to his dad killing a teenage girl.

I mean come on now. Its one thing if this was an actual roast or something where youre expected to push buttons as far as you can, this is a NBA TV broadcast. Maybe shy away from making jokes about players dad's killing teenage girls. Just a little recommendation is all.

It was an epic faux paux by Glenn Consor, but I doubt he was "literally making a reference to his dad shooting a 14yr old girl". If you read the article it talks about how KPJ was raised, how his Mom tried to shield him from the shooting, how he tried to follow in his Dad's footsteps, took his number, etc, etc.

I suspect Consor was trying to incorporate the common knowledge that Kevin has always said he plays to honor his father's memory and unintentionally or perhaps subliminally completely botched it by his choice of basketball terms.

I mean before someone started digging in to crime reports, this is the kind of stuff people were writing about KPJ and his father (all the way back to what he wore for the draft):

Porter Jr. lost his father so early in his life, and he likely has very little personal memories about his dad. However, he has obviously served as an inspiration for him throughout his life, and in arguably the most important moment of his 19 years of existence, Porter made sure that he would be able to share this with his father.

And yes, it's possible Consor could have mixed up Kevin Porter's dad for the Kevin Porter that used to play for the Wizards. Someone announcing Wizards games should have gotten "pull the trigger" out of his vocabulary years ago, though.

The ironic thing in all of this are the people who are calling for this guy's head, they themselves not knowing there was a good Kevin Porter who used to play in the league.

I don't understand why Lebron feels the need to react so quickly to things especially as a person with his stature. I mean wait a few days(hell a few hours) and then react because this has the potential now to make him look stupid and you know there are people(his most extreme haters) waiting to pounce on this. Curry is one of the other faces of the league and you don't see him do this like Lebron does.

Well it'd be like an announcer saying "Lebron guarding the ball super close just like he was with his father".

I mean we all know who Curry's dad is, unlike Lebron's.

This is literally the dumbest comparison I've ever seen on RealGM. And that's saying a lot.

And while we're at it, there is still room for a delonte west joke, his step father, right?

You're not surprised at all, though. Your "example" was nothing more than a bad faith attempt to present those who you disagree with as crazy and irrational. You surely love to pretend that this is the case but if that was indeed the case then you wouldn't have to resort to that kind of an example, would you?

How did it make sense in his head that a player from the 70’s fathered a now 21 year old kid? Either the joke, or that level of incompetence is worthy of firing him.

Btw, anything happened to Azubuike and his horrible British Mexican accent?

Neah, he's good.

You should run and cancel him.

Clearly a mistake. Love how people are trained to immediately attempt to destroy a man's livelihood for Twitter clout though. Good luck in the next life if you're pulling stuff like that.

Definitely didn't sound like there was any malicious intent in the tone of his voice which was confusing but the mistaken identity explains it.

Question ... who in this thread heard about KPJ's father's involvement in the fatal shooting of a 14 year old girl before this thread?

I do think this was a mistake and an apology should suffice.

LeBron and others blowing this up though is just going to make it worse. The announcers are not absolved because the internet exists for research (and research before you say something) but this was not some evil backhanded comment either. A mistake was made.

My point is very simple: a person is innocent until proven guilty.

As I said above, let the guys defend themselves before jumping into assumptions on what they might have said.

Your best case scenario here is that this announcer did zero research and just assumed a player for a visiting team was related to a guy that played for the home team 40 years ago. A fact he likely didn’t reference or verify at any other point until literally the last shot of the game. Just call a spade a spade, dude.

Well said. The best defense for this is "he didn't do his job".

So this guy has been a commentator with the Wizards for 22 years without any incidents, and all of a sudden he decides to go full Anthony Jeselnik with a joke 99.9% of the broadcast viewers wouldn't know the background story to?

I don't buy it. I'd be surprised if it didn't turn out that this was an honest mistake.

What I find more disgusting is people calling for him to be fired without even having heard the commentator's explanation. People just go straight to "cancel" like this isn't the guy's livelihood we're talking about here.
