Game 39: Utah Jazz (28-10) @ TorontoRaptors (18-17)
So many players are out or questionable that this might be a reverse trap game. Watch out, Toronto.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

The concern would be getting back into the US. As two Jazz players are already in the NBA COVID protocol, it's not unlikely others have been exposed. If anyone were to test positive in Canada (negative test or proof of recovery is required to fly into the US) they would be stuck in Canada for a while– presumably in quarantine accommodations in or around Toronto. (The US regs are posted on the CDC website, along with an explanation of some of Canada's policies.)Parataxis wrote:Crunch 99 wrote:

Consequently, the Jazz will be fielding a team of Ensign Expendables for this game.

Why Butler playing over Forrest?
I Hope our questionable players play. Then we have a slim chance.

That makes sense, thanks. From the tweet, it looked like he was implying that it had something to do with Toronto or Canadian regulations, rather than a US border decision.

Any news on IF this game is going to played?
Azubuike, Butler, Forrest, Fitts, House, Hughes, Paschall Then pick one...(Clarkson, Gay, O'Neil, Whiteside)
Who, of the GTD's, would be considered the least needed when back in US in case of the 14 day exposure border crossing regulation?
What a line up!
My vote would be Gay. With at least GObert and Ingles out and possibly others soon, over the next few weeks we need Whiteside's length, Clarkon's offense, & O'Neils all around defense and playmaking ability. Gay's all around game would be terrific as well, and his veteran leadership could be major, so maybe I just talked myself out of that vote...
I can see this road trip as a possible time for O'Neil to showcase more of his offensive talents like what he had while at Butler. his willingness to become the defensive presence this team required a few years back has not allowed him to be as offense minded as I think he could be.
I look at this as an opportunity for O'Neil to make an important impact that will have longterm benefits come playoff's. Similarly to my earlier comments about Clarkson developing his assists and inside game this year, O'Neil developing his offensive game could be huge for this team. He has already made a nice impact with his improved rebounding this year, now if he could get his scoring average up 4-5 points per game, that would give us one more lethal out of the spot light weapon!

The Jazz signed Norvell Pelle to a 10 day, and he's reportedly going to be available. That gets the Jazz to the minimum 8 players, even if all the Questionable players don't go; Azubuike, Butler, Fitts, Forrest, House, Hughes, Paschall, Pelle
I think they are essentially just forfeiting this game to give a few guys a rest & to not take a chance anyone else comes down with COVID while in Canada. Hoping it can be a breakthrough for Butler, but the length & aggressiveness of the Raptors D will make it tough on a smaller guard like him, especially when there's no real threats on the floor to burn them from deep.
Best case scenario, IMO: it isn't a blowout, a couple players gain some big minutes & confidence (I'm looking at Butler & House, specifically), and no Jazz coaches get stuck in Canada by testing positive.

That is one interesting line up. Tough test. If the ball isn't flying and they rely on isos, I don't see the Jazz scoring in the hundreds. Might take a miracle 50point game from JC for that to happen

Game starts in a few minutes. Confirmed Jazz starting lineup is Butler, Forrest, Hughes, Paschall and Whiteside. I guess Fitts, House, Dok and Pelle man the bench. Go Jazz!

Hmm, Paschall should be getting Ingles minutes.
Ingles is cooked.

What was the idea with Jazz timeout 3 min before end of first quarter? May be too cheap players played too good and that momentum had to be broken?
