I love this move. A legitimate big(7'2) that can block shots, and get lobs. Almost zero risk with this move.

New lineup I’d like to see:

PG - Cade
SG - Diallo
SF - Bey
PF - Bol Bol
C - Stewart

If it comes to nothing then we didn't venture much.

More or less Thon Maker redux.

I don't know much thing about Bol Bol as a player other than being aware of the degree of hype around him going into his draft, and the injury and other concerns that lead to that stock tanking.

Beyond the superficial how much do these 2 guys have in common?

Personally, I was just going for the superficial comparison. Thon Maker level production is what I expect. No problem with the trade, though - it’s the kind of deal the Pistons should be making.

With Thon I always got the sense of some physical gifts, just a guy without the foggiest notion of how to play basketball.

I guess we’ll see.

Hey, Pistons actually signed McGruder for a reason now. Watching clips of Bol, he's very slow, looks like he has very little muscle for interior defense, and has so-so control of the ball.

I do see some potential offensively. On the pick n roll, defenders have to respect Cade, so Bol Bol should keep his man glued to him to avoid the alley oop at least. Plus, it does look like Bol Bol could get that finger roll, five foot flick.

Defensively, his height certainly is a plus, but he doesn't look quick enough to recover on switches or challenge shots. I imagine most NBA players will delight in taking the ball right at him.

I'll be honest and say I don't see this working out at anything better than a twelfth man.

But no question it's the right move.

9'7" standing reach :o
Anyway, Bol will get the best opportunity of his life with the Pistons, if we show an inclination to see what he's got... He needs to get his stuff together, and seize this chance.
Bol for McGruder is a no-brainer. Let's see what he's got.

A good comment in the youtube link:
As a Nuggets fan, I was rooting for him before because Bol Bol has tons of potential, but he doesn’t seem to put in the work. He doesn’t show enough effort when given play time and is often a deer in headlights. Just yesterday’s game he had absolutely no idea where he was standing and had a horrible out of bounds at the corner. Whenever a player steps on the court, that should be his time to prove hi self and show why he deserves more playing time, but Bol hasn’t done anything of the sort, and more often gives reasons to get him benched. He is definitely unique but needs a system that would adapt to him, and does not adapt to how the team plays. He’s not a good fit in a Denver team that especially emphasizes effort and might have more opportunities in another team, but as much as I want to root for him the eye test just showed me he isn’t going to make the most of his opportunity in the NBA. Maybe he’ll mature after getting cut by Denver in the future, but he’ll need to show a lot more for other teams to believe in him and what he can do.

Ah Korzemba, the king of highly dubious takes. Particularly with respect to younger players.

Well, this time I guess I hope he's right.

I don't know who Korzemba is, but his critique seems unbiased and fair. This vid is probably one of the best summarizations of him for the few videos I've watched. I'm looking forward to seeing Bol on the court.

Probably.

I mostly know Korzemba from his thumbnails these days, since I stopped watching his videos years ago. And that thumbnail is pretty click-baitey.

He made a video on how Thon Maker was a future MVP in the making. His takes are …. Suspect at best.

Worth a flyer. Nice little tryout for the rest of the year. I still hope they go after Jalen Smith in free agency. Keep taking them swings with young players with potential.

Rodney McGruder is the one guy who, when he entered the game, everyone wondered what Casey was doing. There's just no spot for a vet like McGruder on this team. Not good enough to warrant playing time over the youth. In that sense, it is addition by subtraction. Maybe Weaver was also tired of seeing McGruder on the floor.

As for Bol Bol, there was talk of him being a lottery pick when he came out but his draft stock plummeted. Denver seemed like they made a brilliant move when they picked him up but he never played. I'm guessing he was a terrible interview and his attitude since becoming a pro hasn't improved much either. Denver fans say he might not even cross the half court line if the play wasn't designed for him. He's been called entitled and lazy. I don't have much in the way of expectations for Bol Bol, but I still think it is a very good trade. It clears up our backcourt and also there is the slight possibility that Bol Bol was just in a place that was a bad fit for him.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Bol Bol could use a change of scenery. We could use someone who's actually tall. Might work.
