1) RJ is alternating between bull in china shop getting blocked and trying out his DWade stop in the paint and side/back-stepping his way into a baby jumper. The more he mixes it up, the more savvy he'll become about when he can go all the way in and convert (like his slick under and around the basket lay-in last night)

2) RJ is asserting himself and trying to take over games. Sometimes it's working which gives him the confidence to keep trying to dictate the terms of engagement. RJ is stubborn, so if something only works half the time he will keep hammering on it until he makes it work 75% of the time. That's what we're seeing during this streak. Last night whatever he was doing seemed to work 80% of the time with a few blocks, missed dunks and turnovers in between.

RJ's the real captain on this team now. You could see his teammates losing their minds watching him play last night. They've got his back

as long as RJ can employ a relatively diverse offensive game like he did last night, he'll be a solid building block. timelord is a great defender, but RJ exacerbated his lack of success by playing very predictably

I think of it this way

If RJ is trying to become the alpha and displace Randle, then it is a good thing. It shows he may have what it takes to be a boss. We need one in the worst way so I will allow it

Disgusting that we have to talk about how cancerous Julius is when Mitch DOMINATED yet again and no mention of his play :noway: :noway: :noway:

rj played like a man who is sick of losing his alpha role to a power forward last night. happened at duke, then happened here

He is not going to continue shooting at the current low rate if you look at his career shooting, he may not achieve the standards of last year either but somewhere in between would be great and realistic.

With RJ and Fournier now picking it up I am expecting things to open up for us and Randle to start taking advantage. We are going to have a strong finish to the season, especially when Rose and Noel are back in the mix.

and for all the standles here is the truth

randle will continue to get booed for pouting and playing for stats but the moment he gets his head out of his ass and starts playing well, he’s going to get cheered 10x harder than norm

it comes with the package, new york fans will hurt your feelings but we’ll also inflate your ego.

Ha good comparison. He's also the healthiest of the three top picks :)

I think it'll be interesting to see what happens. I just like the way RJ plays the game. Randle seems to be in a tailspin that started with the Hawks series. Not everybody is built to knock down walls, and that's okay. Randle is probably a good guy -- he seems like it. Competitiveness and pleasant/decent human traits don't always go together -- arguably they are opposite.

Exactly, but it’s going to take a lot to overcome this.

The team needs to keep winning first of all, but I see Julius doing the low key hot potato thing for a little longer to slowly get back in the flow, unless he gets real hot. The home fans are not going to tolerate him taking 20+ shots if he’s bricking, visibly sulking, and the team losing.

People think last night was bad with the boos, but the team blew the Spurs out and RJ was great. Imagine if they got blown out instead with Julius playing that way. Oh lawd.

I half expect a deal of RJ and Grimes for like Turner, with Thibs explaining how RJ was getting into the wrong passing patterns and confusing Randle.

Great play. That's how young guys grow up together and learn to play as a unit

I realize people disagree, but the roster was set up this season with an offensive pecking order of:

1) Randle
2) D-Rose
3) Kemba
4) Fournier
5) Barrett
5A) Burks

Randle has effectively shat the bed with his immaturity. D-Rose & Kemba predictably got Thibadeuad out of the lineup. And Fournier just seems to be inconsistent as hell, especially with Randle on the floor.

NOW is the time for RJ to establish himself with some consistency. He needs to hone it in and stay consistent over weeks while DRose & Kemba sit and Randle & Fournier sulk/suck. This is what I mean when I say Knick draftees need to swim upstream against the franchise if they're going to make it here. RJ has a very short leash and a very short window to make it happen. You love to see the confidence and just hope he can stay consistent despite being 21 and half-a-dozen to a dozen years younger than the 4 guys above him on the totem pole.

Normal franchises would make RJ the alpha right now regardless of wins/losses, but we all know he'll be demoted and asked to defer shots to veterans the minute the older guys get their legs/confidence back. The mandate from on-high is to make the 8 seed at all costs THIS SEASON, and NOT to develop a potential perennial All Star into somebody who could lead us into deep playoff runs in future years. Is what it is, and I'm rooting for RJ to make the most of this chance while it lasts.

Randle v. the fans already seems like a problem and he's clearly over it.

Just don't be shocked if we do something dumb. It always seems like the fans are thinking one way and the front office is thinking another. Yep I'm still going to bring up letting Lin go. Lin turned out to be nothing special, and that could be the case with RJ, but you really don't know if they're seeing the same things we see.

I wouldn't take it for granted!

RJ looking like he has some game, but so did Obi for a few games and the coach clearly doesn't like him. Yes it's different but only by a matter of degrees.

We're all writing Randle's Knick obit, but it is POSSIBLE the front office is thinking -- how do we get Randle back to that level? We need help and we need to shed the young guys. Think about it -- that's 100% why we got Fournier right?

So how do you know Obi, RJ and others like Grimes won't be used as trade bait. Don't get your little Knicks heart broken.

Just sayin' not trollin'

The big reason against this is because the fans are done with Julius, at least at the moment.

Dolan mainly just cares about attendance, money, not having bad press, and that sort of thing. If we traded the young guys, who the fans love and are getting chants, to appease Julius, who is being mercilessly booed, the pitchforks would be sharpened and deployed.

I ain't counting those chickens. Melo deserves to be revered here but we never won with him -- we were horrible actually on the whole. JR Smith was supposedly a big catch back in the day lol. Fournier isn't that terrible but he was our big signing (which I supported).

We don't know the Randle situation is any different. They did sign him to a big deal.

The available evidence we have is that the coach and front office are sold on Randle. Some booing doesn't indicate anything else.

It would not SHOCK me if we dumped RJ and Grimes and others. I do have to give them some credit for trying to develop these guys, the youts, but it doesn't mean it's going to last either. There is some tension with Randle and his play sort of speaks for itself, but history tells you that doubling down on players who don't have what it takes to get you there is more likely our chosen pathway than investing in good young players.

I wouldn't count chickens. You don't even know if the booing makes it MORE likely Randle stays. Front offices get annoyed with fans too you know.
