Come on man.. Barnes is not #2 right now.

Then who is? If you have Wagner #2 right now, I don't have a problem with it. But if two rookies are posting similar numbers at the end of the season, the player on the team with the better record will win. That's how it's always been. This is a league which rewards winning. Orlando is currently on pace for 14 wins.

and hopefully #1 pick !

If Orlando gets the #1 pick, they'll be a scary team in the near future. Glad to see Weltman get extended as well. He's one of the best and most underrated executives in the game.

cade's first 15 games: 13/6.5/4.8/1.3/0.5 on a TS% of .433. also 7.3 3PA/G shooting .245.
cade's last 15 games: 18.3/4.9/6.1/1.4/0.8 on a TS% of .547. also 6.6 3PA/G shooting .404.

he's heading in the right direction!

He's playing well and hitting his 3s which is a good sign. Hard to judge AST/TO on that team he's on as well. Floor was always high on Cade, all the early season takes were premature. Question for him will always be ceiling.

definitely, he's already showing his bball IQ is off the charts for someone his age but it's still to be seen (and he's a ways away at this point) if he can be an efficient, high-volume scorer.

Mobley has regained the lead but Barnes is still firmly holding that 2nd spot.

I was mentioning the long term picture. Stats wise may be Barnes is a little bit ahead of Cade currently but Cade is balling nowadays and Barnes has definitely taken a seat back to the 3 amigos (Fred, Siakam and OG).

I think it'll be Mobley, Franz, Cade, Barnes, Giddey in the rookie ladder tomorrow. Franz is still averaging almost 19 PPG in his last 20 games and he leads rookies in PPG.

Glad they sat Sarnes out tonight. He has clearly been trying to play thru a bummed knee and hip. I would even rest him against Detroit on Friday for some extra rest.

We’ve been over this already. It’s not based on record. If it was, Carmelo would’ve won the award in 2003. Just stop.

He hasn’t looked right (physically) to me over the last few games. Might be nagging injuries or a rookie wall but either way, it’s best to give him some extra rest.

I have Mobley and Barnes as the clear 1 and 2.

I have Franz 3rd.

Then I don't know who's 4th between Duarte, Sengun and Cunningham.

Theres a solid argument that Barnes isn't #2 any more since the Raptors got healthy + his knee injury, which is fine IMO. But then I'd probably move Franz into that spot, maybe Cade.

If that's the order, 4th would clearly be Cunningham.

Lately I'd probably rank it
1. Mobley
2. Franz
3. Cade

With Cade and Franz being interchangeable depending on what you see/value on your team.

the biggest reason why i have cade as a top3 pick from bust is he is flashing his playmaking ability which is rare in yr 1.
as long as he shoots over 40/35 im ok if he can put up 18 points a game. terrible team but still great raw production.
basically i value 15/5/5 statline guys as potential all stars and that is solid trajectory regardless of redraft.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.

Franz has been #1 over the last couple of weeks but Mobley outplayed him last week.

I wonder if games played factors in at all? Usually you have to play 70% of your games to be among the league leaders in different stats. Cade and Mobley are around 75% right now. So if they miss anymore substantial-time they may be ineligible.

Most impressive thing to me is his ability to get to where he wants. Change of pace dribble, navigating screens, using his body to keep the defender on his hip ect...he looks really comfortable on the ball.

No Giddey?

So far in 5 JAN games he is putting up special numbers:

14ppg / 9.2rpg / 8.2apg / .58TS

He is clearly in the conversation, albiet more of a mention than a contender.

The kid is so fun to watch, cant wait for OKC to get Chet. :D

Winning has nothing to do with ROY. Barnes and Mobley play on better/healthier teams than Wagner. You cant base the award off of wins, because if thats the case players like Ja Morant shouldnt have won ROY(which he clearly shouldve and earned) when you had Kendrick Nunn putting up similar numbers on a team that went to the finals. ROY is strictly based on stats. I think as of today the ranking is

1- Mobley
2- Wagner
3- Cade (based off of his strong numbers as of recently)
4- Barnes
5- Giddy

That's not entirely true.

Look at the past winners:
2021 - LaMelo (Hornets: 33-39)
2020 - Morant (Grizzlies: 34-39)
2019 - Doncic (Mavericks: 33-49)
2018 - Simmons (76ers: 52-30)
2017 - Brogdon (Bucks: 42-40)
2016 - KAT (Wolves: 29-53)
2015 - Wiggins (Wolves: 16-66 - However, no other rookie came close to Wiggins statistically (averaged 17ppg on 44% shooting. Mirotic was the runner up and averaged 10ppg on 41% shooting)
2014 - MCW (76ers: 19-63, Runner up was Oladipo/Magic: 23-59, 3rd place was Burke/Jazz: dead last in the WC. Therefore, all 3 finalists were on the 3 worst teams in the league)
2013 - Lillard (Blazers: 33-49)
2012 - Irving (Cavs: 21-45 - However, no other rookie came close to Irving (averaged 19ppg on 47% shooting. Rubio was runner up and averaged 11ppg on 36% shooting)
2011 - Griffin (Clippers: 32-50)

I can keep going on and on. This league has always rewarded winning. The Magic absolutely suck, their record is abysmal & are on pace to finish the season 14-68. Unless Wagner & Cade can pull away significantly from Barnes & Mobley statistically, they won't be able to win the award.

You bring up the Morant/Nunn example. But that doesn't help your case whatsoever. Morant averaged 18ppg/7apg/4rpg on 44/38/78 splits. His team finished 9th in the Western Conference and barely missed out on a playoff spot in a much stronger conference. Nunn averaged 15/3apg/3rpg on 44/35/85 splits. Morant clearly posted the much better numbers and his team was actually competitive.

Again man, I don't have a problem with Wagner being slotted at #2 right now, or heck even #1. But I'm just saying at the end of the season, if these rookies still have similar numbers across the board, team records will be taken into account because this league has always rewarded winning basketball.

Great post. If the difference among 2 top rookies is not too great then their impact on team's winning decides who wins ROY.
