Damn... 39/8/7 for McBrizzle. I wonder what Randle could do in the G League.

What I really appreciated about Julius Randle vs. San Antonio is that despite only scoring 2 points he realized his shot was off and therefore only took 7 shot attempts and instead focused on ball movement and rebounding.

There is something about Julius Randle that is taken for granted. At the age of only 27 he's the only veteran where (even when struggling from the field) opposing coaching staffs have to game plan for and opposing players look to double team. In other words he's the only veteran talent who takes the pressure off of younger players such as Immanuel Quickley, R.J. Barrett and Mitchell Robinson and takes that New York pressure and puts it all on himself. We looked horrible without him and went 0-2 without him.

I personally can never boo the guy. Not after last season I can't. For better or worse he's the heart and soul of our team and he'll always have All-Star potential in his back pocket.

deuce has talent but he is raw af. I think he needs a year and playing in the g-league might be the best for his development now.
watching 48 minutes from the bench and playing 30 seconds of garbage time does nothing for him.

1) Randle
2) D-Rose
3) Kemba
4) Fournier
5) Barrett
5A) Burks

Randle has effectively shat the bed with his immaturity. D-Rose & Kemba predictably got Thibadeuad out of the lineup. And Fournier just seems to be inconsistent as hell, especially with Randle on the floor.

NOW is the time for RJ to establish himself with some consistency. He needs to hone it in and stay consistent over weeks while DRose & Kemba sit and Randle & Fournier sulk/suck. This is what I mean when I say Knick draftees need to swim upstream against the franchise if they're going to make it here. RJ has a very short leash and a very short window to make it happen. You love to see the confidence and just hope he can stay consistent despite being 21 and half-a-dozen to a dozen years younger than the 4 guys above him on the totem pole.

Normal franchises would make RJ the alpha right now regardless of wins/losses, but we all know he'll be demoted and asked to defer shots to veterans the minute the older guys get their legs/confidence back. The mandate from on-high is to make the 8 seed at all costs THIS SEASON, and NOT to develop a potential perennial All Star into somebody who could lead us into deep playoff runs in future years. Is what it is, and I'm rooting for RJ to make the most of this chance while it lasts.

I’d keep an eye on where the ball goes early in the clock. If RJ is initiating the sets more and more it should be a sign that he has asserted his authority over Randle who is deferring to RJ or that Thibs made that adjustment himself.

Since I don’t really trust Thibs to do the right thing my natural inclination is to believe RJ saw the team circling the drain and took it upon himself to take the reins. That’s what it looks like this past 6-7 games.

So whether or not any of this recent shift is coming from above and RJ was given the greenlight there is no doubt RJ is doing his best to put the team on his back and make things happen. I like it. It is the leadership this team was lacking.

RJ is still rough around the edges, but he does not lack desire and that is the kind of guy I’m betting will break through.

Love the Thread Title because R.J. Barrett has been balling out of control as of late.

Previous 12 Games:
32.7 minutes per game.
20.2 points per game.
4.8 rebounds per game.
2.9 assists per game.
0.8 steals per game.
FG% of .431%.
3PT% of .408%.
2.0 Turnovers per game.

And during his previous 6 games his numbers look even better.

Previous 6 games:
35.6 minutes per game.
23.3 points per game.
5.2 rebounds per game.
3.5 assists per game.
1.0 steals per game.
FG% of .464%.
3PT% of .400%.
2.3 turnovers per game.

It's hard to believe that he's still the 2nd youngest player on the team @ only 21 years old (Deuce McBride being the youngest).

I won't swear. But I promise you.

If R.J. Barrett A.) Drives to the rim and attacks the paint more often B.) Shoots less jumpers and C.) Improves his FT%? He'll become a walking 25 PPG player in his sleep with 30 PPG type of Superstar potential (already the most 30 point games by a Knicks player only 21 years of age or younger in Franchise history).

Yeah, those numbers are pretty good

Makes my Khris Middleton comp look better, cause that's about what Middleton does.

I agree. Khris Middleton is an excellent comparison.

However two main points separate the two.

1.) I dont think not even Middleton @ age 24/25 as a 3rd year player looked this good, this soon.

2.) Middleton unlike R.J. hasn't been blessed to play alongside of a freakish Greek Freak since entering the league in order to take the pressure off. And I like and appreciate Julius Randle but unfortunately he's no Greek Freak.

My question is this. Because I haven't followed Middleton over the years. I'm just box score watching and have only watched him the previous couple seasons during the playoffs and last years Finals. How good was his Defense early on? Was he considered a lock down Defender on the perimeter?

Less jumpers might be good, but him hitting pull up mid range jumpers is a nice way for him to set up his drives, since he's not the most explosive guy. Gives the defense something to think about, give him that slight edge for drives.

Yep

Much better defender than RJ.

I'll have you know, RJ has more 30 point games for the Knicks than MJ

Therefore, RJ>MJ

And Kobe never averaged 18 ppg as a Knick before turning 21 in games played at 7 pm EST

Therefore, RJ>Kobe.

RJ been hooping. But it seems he really goes off against teams missing key rotational pieces. In this stretch he played well against Indiana & SA both missing starting caliber wing players but struggled against Toronto and Boston. You can't control who you play but it would be nice to see it against some better competition.

yep need to see a consistent stretch of him balling against good competition before I become a believer in him.
